Hi,

Does anyone have already replace the front case on a 4G63T, with the engine in place (on a c53a) ?

I think my front case is leaking .... :-?

Any advice ?

Thanks !

take the front timing cover off and look for the leak.. if u cant see it..put it all back together and drive it a few days (assuming you dont drive on alot of dirt roads)... and keep checking it.. it might just be the crank seal..which I just replaced on mine...

but if it is the gasket or a cracked front cover..then it would be easier to raise it up high enough to do it over the fender..only because there isnt much room in there to scrape the old gasket off and make sure everything is clean.

I would guess its a seal or the oil pan. I don't think the front case is prone to leaking. If it is I'd honestly yank the engine out to fix it. It's going to be a PITA to do with it in the car.

Have you done with the engine in place (engine bay) ?

Thanks for your answers.

It's like doing the timing belt, but worse.

You will not have many curse words left in the bucket, when you are finished.

The crank seal wouldn't be too bad. The front case gasket would be a nightmare. Either one leaves you doing the timing belt. Do yourself a favor and yank the engine. You can do a much better job with it outside of the car. But then again I tend to take the long route sometimes.
