As of now I am running a stock pump. I assumed this would be my major hurdle in increasing boost. What sort of pump upgrade is common at this stage and does the tank need to be dropped to install a new pump? I remember reading you can access it, I think, from inside the car. Would the pump be something I actually need to upgrade or if I hope to continue my upgrades (e.g. turbo)?
I'd like to get a wideband soon, perhaps an EGT probe in there too, eh?
thanks mate
Throw in a Walbro 255HP, do the fuel pump rewire (adding a relay and thicker wiring), then get yourself an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator. That'll take care of most of your fuel needs for quite awhile. Yes, the tank does need to be dropped. The only thing accessible from inside is the gas gauge sending unit.
I was having fuel starvation at around 16lbs with my 14b/450's. After I did the 255hp and the AFPR, I cranked my mbc up to 20lbs until the 14b finally gave up, then in went an "evoIII" big 16g and I ran that on 22lbs with the same fuel setup without issue.
Get the wideband, skip the EGT.
