Forgive me if this has been asked before:

I am in the process of a 4g63t engine swap in a factory turbo mirage. I purchased a complete 4g63t rebuilt 6 bolt block with a rebuilt 2g head. It is a running engine with all accessories and sensors. I also bought dsmlink and the 4g63t socketed computer

The stock 4g61t is on an engine stand and has obviously been pulled. I have the factory harness from the 4g61t and the original sensors but do not have the new 4g63t harness. I noticed some sensors on the 2g head will not work with the 61t harness.

Could anyone give me an idea of the easiest way to make this swap? Or if someone has done it before with a 2g head please chime in.

Swap all the 6 bolt sensors (4g61t) onto the 2g head and it will work.

I would recommend you doing a 91-94 tb conversion, then get some 2g coils and swap your 90-94 coil wiring/connector to them...

Also, you can modify the Turbo Mirage harness to run the 91+ ECU.

I swapped the turbo mirage throttle body and it seemed to bolt up fine with all the sensors. I am now in the process of swapping the 61t coil pack to the 63t coil pack bracket so it will bolt to the intake manifold. It had to be modified to work. I should have it mounted today. Cam position sensor was moved over too and seemed to bolt up fine.

The engine does have the 2g thermostat housing and water neck etc...It seems like it will work fine, not sure if I should swap the 61t stuff over though.

I swapped over all the components from the mirage coil pack to the 2g head so all the plugs from the mirage harness will plug in. I am not sure of the exact year of the ecu, although I do know it is a 1g. Am I still going to have problems with the tach signal if the ecu is from a let's say 93?

The Mirage turbo is wired like a 90 DSM, unless its a 90 ECU things won't act right, unless you do the steps in the link to your harness.

or you can get this..

http://www.dsmchips.com/viewproduct.php?id=32

I odered mine last tues..waiting for it to get here.. im using the 90 harness and 90 ecu (this all worked in my colt).. but it wont work in my 94 mirage..so I am hoping this lil thing fixes the issue.

my theory is.. the 89 colt tach signal runs off same system as the 90 dsm... the 94 mirage tach runs off the 91+ dsm style signal.. if you can hold off 1 week I should have mine hooked up and tested and can let u know for sure if it works..

The dsmlink is version 2.5. I was thinking of sending the ecu in to be updated to v3. If I do this can the ecu be updated there to work plug and play with my 90 style wiring harness?

They can probably install something like this into the ECU http://www.dsmchips.com/viewproduct.php?id=31. You can also swap pins 6 and 14 (at the harness) and simply figure out how you want the tach to work properly. The link with the part slowdsm posted will probably be the easiest method if you want to do it from the harness.

Thanks for the replies.

Can you clarify you quote, "figure out how you want the tach to work properly?"

I believe there are other wiring things people do to get it to work also.

Or running a stand alone Tach.

I ordered the external tach adapter like the one posted. Seems like the cheapest and best option.

Does the 2G thermostat housing use a pressure/rad cap?
Same bolt pattern as the 1G style?

If you answered yes to both, then you should be using the 4g61 thermostat housing and related sensors.

The 1g thermostat housing will not fit on the 2g head, the bolt patterns are different. The sensors on the 2g thermostat housing look the same as the 1g connectors and they have been left on. Once the engine is dropped in I may have to swap sensors. I won't know until next week. I am waiting on poly motor mounts. I'm going to have two coolant caps for awhile until I figure out a better solution because the water neck on the 1g is not a bolt up either.
