Hey guys,

I've been having some issues on my car:

1)Idle Issues
2)Turbo starts charging at 5,000 RPM

I have a 97 Eclipse GS-T with a recent engine swap (previous owner had it N/A) 4G61T and a TD05 16G turbo but the ECU is from a 4G63T, i am wondering if the ECU is causing these problems and what are the pros and cons of running this.

Thanks in advance.

so the gs-t has a 61 in it with a 63 ecu?.... it should work if they used all the 63 part like injectors. and stuff.. as far as not building boost till 5k.. have u checked for boost leaks?

I'm not sure what injectors it has but most likely they are the ones for the 61. The previous engine owner said that the engine had 63 Pistons (supposedly he bored) and such but i have heard that is not possible as the 63 Pistons are higher than 61 therefore it would hit on top.

My mechanic said there wasn't any boost leak :s

First of all, I'm sorry that someone did that engine swap, because that's a major downgrade in performance.

Secondly, the symptoms you're describing probably aren't caused by the ECU. It's normal for a 16G turbo to be pretty laggy on the 1.6L Engine. I would do a compression test to make sure the engine is in good shape. Idle issues are extremely common on these cars. You should find out for sure which injectors you have, because the car will run funny if it still has the smaller 390cc injectors that come on the 1.6L engine. Swapping to 450cc's from a 2.0L should help somewhat, but it's likely that you'll always have idle problems with the car. Trying to troubleshoot an idle problem is usually a huge pain in the ass, it could be caused by hundreds of different things.

Hi,

i only want so say that the 4G61T works well with 4G63T ECU!
I use this time the 11b, with 450cc Injektors, GST ECU, cyclone intake manyfold and a SAFC to correkt the Injektion...
But i have to say, the idle isn`t good. If its cold, it is to high(over 1400rpm, with engine working themp) and if i race it, the idle-speed goes down till 600rpm....
The charger is loading from 1800rpm without any lag... But it is a 11b....
If you use the 16G on a 4G61T, the Turbo is very big i think. Size them down to 14B or 13G and it will start loading earlyer i think.

Should use the MAF for the same ECU also.

Injectors, ECU, MAF ... even better with 4g63t cams and TB (intake entrance ported to match).

Idle would be fine then.
