Has anyone built one? I was planning on building a high compression and high-revving motor but was interested if anyone else has gone this route. Looking for a reasonable 200hp. I understand that the N/A 4g63's have a higher compression ratio but lack oil squirters. I was thinking about picking one of those up to use. Now before you say "just 4g63t swap it", don't even get that far. I have no plans for a turbo. This car is going to be a autocross, canyon car. I hate drag racing. It is by far the most boring thing ever. So yeah, that's my reasoning :D Any help is welcomed!

To hit 200hp in an NA 4G63, you will have a car with a powerband that is not suitable for canyon carving or autocross. Sorry to say. Unless you plan to stay in high RPMs at all times, it will be a gutless, chuggy slug.

So I'm guessing no low end torque? I would like an even powerband but I don't mind staying in higher rpm's. Maybe I could go with a 2.4 bottom end with a 2.0 head since the SOHC 4g64's already have around 170ftlbs of torque.

The 2.4 would be the way to go, but it will not be a high-revving engine, unfortunately. Stock 7000-7500rpm, basically.

I'd try to find a g4cs out of a 91ish Sonota, it is SOHC, but the Mitsu DOHC head is a direct bolt on. The timing bits are a little tricky IIRC, but im sure you can find a write up on it. I'd also go with a 2g head for the smaller runners, this should keep the port velocity up.

Come drive my Colt with an EVO3, Quaife and Cyclone dual runner manifold.

It is funkin' creepy how this thing gets up and goes at part throttle.

I haven't hit full boost yet because I am waiting on installation of the larger fuel pump and AFPR, then wideband.

A 2.4 with suspension, trans work and mods to make it breathe, will get you somewhere with an NA motor. Overseas they had high compression pistons, so if you can find a German/Euro GTI piston, they could copy the dome at whatever company you sent the piston to, maybe even recommend some tweaking. You would be looking for 1.8L or 2.0L NA pistons.

A true canyon carver will require enough torque get you up hills (even more reason for more displacement/artificial displacement), and suspension mods to keep the front tires planted, steering geometry in check while heavy cornering AND encountering jounce/rebound from bumps. Also, proper sized brakes are 100% required to keep up with all of this. Of course it all depends on how fast you want this car to go, but nothing about any suspension part, steering system or brake system are up to the task of anything but daily driving in the lightest fashion possible.

Thanks for the input guys! I currently have Ksport coilovers on my car and plan on replacing all of the bushings up front and going with the turbo sway bar. Also picking up a set of Enkei Compe's with Dunlop Direzza ZrII's so the suspension and wheel/tire part is covered. I was looking into LSD's but wasn't sure which one to go with so thanks for clearing that up! I also plan on getting the car corner balanced for optimum handling. Also planning on running a harness bar with Corbeau FX1 Pro seats so I don't move about when taking a hard corner. Possibly doing some slight weight distribution like moving the battery to the hatch and so on.

Here is what it currently looks like. Not doing any more rallying though. My plan is to tear the car down and restore it.

And here is what it used to look like with the Enkei 92's.

I will subscribe to this thread :)

So, 2.4 block with a 4g63 head? What gearbox are you thinking to use? I assume the stock one would not live long enough.

Any Turbo transmission would probably live forever behind an NA 2.4. I've been running the stock turbo mirage trans for years, and my car make way more power than a stock turbo 1.6.
