My starter died this week, so i need to replace it. I was going to get a starter from a DSM at the junkyard, but then I thought it might be different. Anyone know? I am using the stock 4g61t flywheel and tranny.

thanks.

The starter from my '95 Talon AWD worked.

It is the same starter as long as you get the one off a manual transmission.

You can visually inspect the 1G starter and see that it is identical to the 4g61t starter.

OK, thanks.

Hey, any cool tricks to getting the starter off that would help me out (time wise)? I noticed its way back there, so would it be easier to get it from under the car or through the hood area? I think under the car might be easier to get too....

Thoughts? opinions? shout-outs?

It really isn't as bad as it looks. 2 bolts from above and 1 bolt and a slip on conector from below. Greg

how did you find out that it was definatly the alternator? one time I went to start mine, put the clutch pedal in, turned the key & it wouldnt turn over. so like a DA I went & bought a rebuilt for $70 installed it & the car still wouldnt turn over. turns out a little rubber cap that pads the ignition button on the clutch pedal had disintergrated. (dough!)
shaped some epoxy putty like the rubber & put it in, works great.
in the repair manual it says how to test the alternator to see if its good. tested it, duh, its good.
