Post subject:  Alternator Relocation using Jay Racing Kit

Hello everyone,

I have been attempting to relocate the alternator on my car with minimal success.

I machined the Jay Racing bracket so I could bolt up the CSM turbo axle.

I am still running into an interferrence issue when I attempted to bolt up the alternator, it interfers with the axle bracket.

Can anybody help me out with how they solved this one? Grind the ear of the alternator down or grind the axle bracket down, or both?

Thanks,

Ben

FYI. Car is a '89 original turbo, with the OEM drivers side axle.

I wouldnt touch the axle at all for grinding something down.. theres not a whole lot there to begin with..

is there any way you can oblong out the 2 mounting holes slightly to rais the bracket up 1/8"? that might cure the issue..

I run this on my Colt. You have two choices. Find an awd 1g intermediate shaft and press the bearing/bracket off of it and use on your CSM shaft. The ears on the bracket face the other direction and are not a problem, the Jay Racing kit is actually made for that bracket so it's a direct bolt on then. Or the second choice is to cut off the second hole and ear on the CSM axle bracket and use the one hole to mount it.

I think I will TIG some "ears" on the bracket to raise the mounting point up 1/4". That should move the alternator up and away from the mounting ear for the axle bracket. Will post pics when completed.

Just make your own bracket Ben. We have made three using angle iron and the stock a/c components. Have not had any issues to 9250rpm and 7 years of abuse.

I just started this process. We pulled the mounting bracket off of a 1g AWD 5 speed and put it on the CSM half shaft but the holes dont line up quite right. From what it looks like, were going to have to drill out the holes a bit. Is this normal? Has anyone gotten the bracket to line up without modifying it? Cutting the CSM bracket is not an option as two mounting bolts are necessary for structural integrity with higher HP applications.
