Hey guy's, I just pulled 4 motors apart...3 4G63's and 1 4G61 (I thought it was a 4G63 lol)
Any way I need to know how to pick out the 4G61 cams from the bunch?
I don't have them infront of me but I assume there must be some #'s on them some where.

Why do you want to pick out the 4G61 cams?

Good reason! I believe there is a lengthy thread in here about this. Try doing some searching around. I know there are certain letter codes on the cams that can be used to determine what they are, but I have no idea what the codes are or what each different one means.

Take inventory of all your different cams and what letters you see on them and go from there.

Measure the lobes from the bottom side to the top of the peak, I bet you find the 4g61t cams are the smallest, assuming someone didn't install 4g63t cams to that head/motor.
Looks like these are the numbers you want to find ... assuming a 1.6L head with matching 1.6L cams ... not sure if turbo or non-turbo made a difference here. The manual does not elude to the fact that there were 1.6L NA motors in these cars along side 1.6L turbo motors, so if the numbers look more like turbo cams ... less duration than NA cams, and less lobe height than DSM cams, it will likely help you narrow this down.

1989 1.6L DOHC NA/TC does not discriminate in the manual between the two for cam specs!
New spec:
Intake MM/IN 35.200/1.3858
Exhaust MM/IN 34.907/1.3743

Limits:
Intake MM/IN 34.700/1.3661
Exhaust MM/IN 34.407/1.3546

Per this: http://www.lilevo.com/mirage/89%20Colt% ... Engine.pdf

Have a scan through the archives here, and I'm sure the technical DSM manuals will have the cams with markings, listed per each year, and by alphabet code with duration/other specs:

Some 2.0 stuff I found on google:

Easy-

1.6T cams are UNMARKED as far as the stamp.

Early 5 speed and late Auto Cams are marked A or B

Late 5 speed cams are marked D and C- THOSE are the most aggressive stock DSM turbo cam you can get-find Cs and Ds, and use those!
