ok So i found a great deal today going to go look at. 400 bucks for a complete rolling shell 1977 dodge Colt RWD. minus the engine. The guy has a spare rwd trans that would need a adaptor plate for 100. But the car im more interested in , today going to go look at with my friend... Body is in great condition!! I have a 91 built colt now. So I would transfer the 4g63t motor. My question is...

How hard would this swap be? engine bay looks small... What would my trans options be? drive shaft fit or need to be custom? I fugure I would ask everyone thoughts before making the leap

thanks!

I know the trans from a carbed 2.0 mighty max bolts to the 4g63 but I doubt it will handle much power. I think some guys use the 2wd toyota p/u trannies with an adapter plate.

Hows the wiring? More concerned if will fit or need custom mounts or axels basically if worth it over ton headaces but 400. Tlk down 300 seems good

definitely need custom motor mounts..also custom drive shaft.... i know its a auto but people use the chevy turbo 400 trans for rwd vehicles with the 4g63 and adaptor plate that u can buy...or a rx7 trans (http://projectzerog.com/index.shtml) ....as for the wiring its about the same as wiring into a colt..or any other car really.... u get the power to the starter via the key on... use the engine harness to the ecu.. ecu get spliced in for power..and to the gauges..

its alottttttt of work but once done will be fun as hell.

Sorry man, I know nothing about the older colts. PM Natedog on here, I'm sure he doesn't make any parts for the swap but he might be able to point you in the right direction.

if it is a g6X engine the 4g6X should bolt right up. Dunno about the tranny though.

As for the stock tranny, its a version of the TorqueFlite family, so I would bolt up your motor to it and see how long it lasts. seriously. I bet with some fresh high-quality ATF and a filter it would run fine.

For mounts, try stock ones from a g63b powered pickup and modify from there. Probably pretty close

EDIT: yep

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TorqueFlite#A904, it puts up with lead-footed drivers in v8 mopars so RUN IT

Fitting a 4g6X into that '70s Colt will be much more work and parts hunting than AWD swapping your current rig.

ProjectZeroG is your best bet for information, as already stated.

it will probably be equivalent to swapping it into a carb'd mighty max.

Guy at Galantvr4.org, swapped in a 4g63t into a 70's Galant Wagon. Didn't look like much more than changing the TB/intake setup, mounts, and driveshaft. Kept the stock trans also, just be smart about. He then drove it all over the country on a long road trip.

Quote:
1973 Dodge Colt / Mitsubishi Galant Wagon
retrofit with a 6 bolt 4G63T, all stock except any cooling modifications to make it work in RWD fashion.
DSM wiring harness & ECU
stock 5 speed trans (bolts up), new stock clutch and stock rear axle
mighty max aluminum radiator
K&N filter
2.25 exhaust with Yamaha crotch rocket muffler
evo8 intake manifold, welded and machined to fit
SRT4 fmic
Diamond Racing 15x8 15x10 combo, 195/50 and 225/50's

Runs on 5psi from the stock 14b, runs good and quiet, built mostly for 'style' and to be something you rarely see on the road. Fast isnt really in the cards for this one, it's just fun to cruise around with.

My roommate had a 77 colt up at the shop a couple weeks ago. It had a 4g in it as well as a d50 manual trans and rear end. It was pretty sick. You really don't have to make custom mount just the truck mounts and see how close they fit and go from there. Same with the trans mount.

the truck motor mounts work in that car they also fit the 4d55 diesel . i swapped a 78 sapporo . the auto that came in those cars is the baby 904 . but with a little work all the stuff from the regular 904 fits just the valve body is smaller . the 5 speed from the 2.0 is the km135 and it is a bit sisy but the starion km145 gears fit in the km135 housing if you grind a little off of the case next to the reverse idler because the starion conquests have a synchro on the reverse gear . i like the tranys the stock trans thats me though it just seems way cheaper . the part where i think to may people get hung up is the water neck of the back of the head . they always slide the motor forward . i like to use a green cam angle sensor and use a 2.6 water neck on the back of the head with a small plate underneath .
