I am quite partial to the Evo8-style ecu swap ;).

The bunch of us over at DSMECU.com have been working on improving the info that's available, and have made a few breakthroughs. I'm using a 2003 Eclipse M/T ecu in my colt, flashed with the Evo8 ROM file, via chinabay VAG-COM cable ;).

Now, as for it being any better than the stock 1G stuff...time will tell. It's more of a 'can't leave well-enough alone' kinda thing IMO.

Okay, mod list waiting to go in for sure:

HKS 264/272 cams
EVO3 16G turbo with ported inlet area
2G ported exh mani
2G or 1G ported 02 housings

Question now is what 02 housing to use?
My 1G housing is ported and looks great, identical versus the blow-off recirc runner sizing smaller than 2G - but still ported
2G housing is lightly ported and slightly askew where the gasket matches in the center (over ported) - read, gasket was cracking from being in exhaust flow and likely glowing hot run with EVO3
Will 2G 02 sensor placement cause issue with access to alternator area

BPR7ES. Tried tested and cheap. its not a v6 where u have to remove the intake mani to replace the plugs (which is why irridiums are so great for those motors)... but on mitsu 4g6x they are so easy to change!

and i am partial to the eprom considering its stock and plug and play! (besides socketing) (the evo 8 ecu requires a patch harness or a lot of time wiring it.

with a 1g eprom, tunerpro and the ostrich there are soooooooo much you can do with the right BIN and XDF. and plus its cheap

A ported 1g o2 and a 2g manifold will do fine! I have seen ppl flow over 400 WHP on those.

Thanks for the information, always good to have some backup to what I was hoping was the case.
Got some plugs on order, but the ones installed looked mint and likely had 3-5K on them. Changing for the sake of changing.
I am wondering how far down the wideband 02 sensor should be installed? I am not using ECMLink, so I need to keep my narrowband in place ... or is there a piggyback function whereby a wideband will output a narrow band signal to an ECU ... I have not read that far into it, but remember Link being able to use the wideband in a narrowband manner.

Sigh, more parts to arrive soon. 8)

I have my stock O2 as well, and my wideband is just below the flange where the dp meets the O2 housing. Narrowband O2s are better at controlling closed loop, IMO. Some widebands have a 0-1v output, but it always causes trouble when used in place of a stocker, in my experience.

That is good to know. I have some room on my 2.5" downpipe to install the wideband. I wonder if my flexpipe is in the way of getting the wideband in the upright position just before the firewall. Either way, I want it somewhat close to the 02 housing, and definitely on the top half of the piping for moisture issues.

Just get an angled O2 bung and point the sensor downwards at a slight angle. That's what I've done with mine, and many times in the past. It's not cruicial that the sensor be straight vertical, just enough so that any condensation has a free path out of the sensor.

Cyclone manifold require use of any additional studs at the cylinder head? versus all bolts/2 studs the way the 1G intake is bolted up now? Can I just re-use all the bolts from the 1G manifold and the 2 nuts/washers from the outermost studs, I guess is the question or will I need to add anything else?

Update to this thread.

Cyclone manifold will install with the bolts to the head, no changes.

What is different is the length of the studs/bolts that hold the TB, and elbow in place.
Studs on the cyclone are not meant for the braces to the head, or trans to be installed again.
You can transfer the studs from the USDM 1G or 1.6T intake manifolds to correct this issue.
