to start off... the car is a factory 89 gt with 4g61t... swapped in a 4g63t...kept all factory wiring..and parts...tb..coil pack..cas..ignighter and such.. only thing swapped was the ecu for a 90 dsm (eprom).. im getting a code 44 which is ignition coil.. never had this code with last engine..ive swapped out the coil pack and ignighter with one off my running car.. so I know they work.. still same code.

would a bad cas cause this code? its hard to swap out cause the factory one has the 5 miles of wire on it..and a reg 90 cas only has about a foot or so..

has anyone else came across this code when doing the swap and keeping all the factory parts/wire harness?

car runs and idles great..just real sluggish when taking off from a stop..need to get this thing done as he will be back next week to pick it up.

thanks...Steve

Could try a CAS swap, It's simple enough, the wire will just barely reach the harness to plug in, you may need to undo the grommet that holds the main harness to the firewall, just did it yesterday to fit a 90 dsm one lol. It will have just enough slack for engine movement.

I also had a similar issue, the wires in the CAS it self were cracked and corroded.

I was thinking the same thing...im off to get the exhaust done in the morning so ill try it later on in the day and see if that helps.

thanks for those links..looks like there having intermittent problems and rpm specific ones...

I drove it today to get the exhaust put on.. I was watching the cel ...each time the car died (almost every light).. when I start the car the cel would come on as soon as it starts up... when it dies the light goes off... as soon as it starts back up its on.. (hard to explain..but my car it goes on then off.. this car its like its off then comes on..)

(hard to explain cause when u sit in both cars and turn the key on..then start it.. they both act totally different when it comes to the cel)

I will try a new cas tomorrow.. and if that isnt the problem then I will pull my ecu and try that.. I will post up if it fixes it..and what the problem was.

What year is your friend's car? The tach bounce issue is usually caused by using a '90 ECU in a '91 to '94 chassis or vice-versa. I wonder if your issue isn't wiring related. I am using a '90 EPROM ECU running ECMLink ver3 without issue in my LX. No special wiring was necessary and the tach works flawlessly. Also, is your car an original turbo car?

well at least the problem was found man, hey was the stock 1.6 eprom? If it is, we can just have it socketed, ooops never mind it doesnt have the knock sensor, someone chime in on this if they have ran the stock ecu with dsm link or ostrich, if not then will have to find someplace to fix the ecu board or another ecu, which totaly sucks, sure it was a 90 ecu??

I don't even run the knock sensor with ECMLink ver3. I have it disabled.

he is on werewolf.

I havent opened up the 1.6 ecu cause it was rebuilt and has the seals on it still so didnt want to touch it.. and the car for some reason had a knock sensor on the 1.6.

and when I bought it they said it was a 90..and I had it in my car for a few days when I first got it.. im thinking that maybee the bad tach filter might of shorted something out.

I think its safe to say that a warranty sticker without the receipt is no good to us, do your surgery I aint tripping, its not like I can do nothing anyways, and if the tach filter would have shorted then your ecu might be damaged too and would have had the bounchy tach sindrome, or if theres another way to verify a 90 or 91 ecu by the numbers on the case, if not then time to get the strippers out and : http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/article ... iring.html
