Just wanted to put up a quick thread asking if any body else has trouble with 4g61t gearboxes? Is it a common problem for them to blow, i've been through two in under two months? :(

The stock transmission mated to a 4g61t motor is the KM210 tranny. Are you at or around stock power level, and under what condition did the transmissions go out on you?

Weren't some 1.6L engine in other markets (Asia/JDM) matted to KM206 tranny's? I ran a sonata km210 last year on a 2L with a gt30 turbo, never had any issues, but I never launched the car either.

Yea. recieving a blow is borderline ok, especially if you didnt know, but knowingly blowing trannies is very homosexual

I am around stock power, maybe slightly higher, I have raised the boost pressure slightly but that is about it, ive blown two of them in under 4months. i live in newzealand so it is a jap import? maybe slightly different to the mirages you guys get over in the states? maybe its just my driving style?

Are you blowing up the gears or the differential? Also, what kind of gear oil are you using? Maybe it's just bad luck, but it could also be driving style. I would assume if you are around stock power level then it's not driving style related. The only time I blew a transmission was when a dowel pin flew out of the flywheel, which was due to rust working it out under normal driving. I also lost a 4-speed that went by natural causes on a 200,000+ mile motor.
