Post subject:  yet another tach question.

ive searched but cant find what im looking for..

working on a 89 colt. factory 1.6t. swapped to a 63t.. used all the electronics from the car.. tach worked before 1.6 was pulled..now it doesnt work. ( 2 times I have seen it move..but nothing over 500 rpm's and for only 2-3 seconds... then it drops and stops working). the tach filter is still pluged in I never removed it..just unbolted it and left it on the harness.. there are 2 more plugs in the center of the firewall..not sure what they go to.. why would it work then stop?

anyone have any good pics of there firewall/engine harness right in the center? :ANAL:

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by used all the electronics from the car. Which car, the Colt or the 4g63 doner car? Are you using the 4g63 ecu and if so what year of car is it out of?

Might be a 90/91 mishmash that's causing problems or a loose wire/ground somewhere, that would explain the sometimes it works/doesn't work issue.

ive moved all the wires..theres no breaks or anything in them.. I only noticed it moved when first starting..the only thing I replaced in the whole electrical system is the 90 dsm ecu..everything else came either on the car..or on the engine itself..im thinking I read somewhere where u need to use a dsm tach filter..I thought maybe the colt one was the same..but looking at mine today it has 3 white wires coming out of the filter.. the stock colt one only has 2..

I will pull mine off this weekend and try it on his car and see if that is the case.. if so I will post results. need the tach so I can set idle/timing before I drive to get the ic piping done on sat.

so I pulled my tach filter off my running car.. put on new car still no tach working...not sure what it is..my harness has 3 white wires going into the plug for the filter..the factory colt harness only has 2..not sure if this is a issue.

If you fix it lmk-mine hasn't worked since I swapped in 2007, and that was reusing everything even the '61t ecu :(
