I bought some ARP studs off ebay a few years ago, supposedly installed but not ran... $40 I could not pass up. What assembly lube and torque steps are necessary for proper install? I have SIX 4g6x heads stacked up, carefully , in my shop. I have long since forgot which was which. I can tell turbo from non, and 1.6 from 1.8/2.0 but thats about it. I especially need help identifying the stock cams in each so I can figure out which set I will run. All the threads I have read on cam identification tell me that one year or letter is better or worse than the next, but not how to tell one set of cams from another if they are in a pile. Where are the cams stamped? after I get the longblock together I will probably have more wuestions, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. |

"lets you torque the nuts on the studs to a higher value than the stock head bolts (75 ft-lbs on 6bolt blocks, producing a higher clamping value, allowing safer higher boost levels (I currently torque mine to 80 ft-lbs, but may run higher) on the stock head gasket." Copied from VFAQ. http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html As for the pile of cams, may want to get a mic? |

I do 90 ft/lbs going in 20 ft/lb increments in the stock pattern. |

If you use regular oil to lube the studs, do 90, if you use the special moly lube they come with, do 80. |

As for cam identification, I found the chart that I remembered seeing in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6218&start=30 Quote: 4G6x DOHC
Just posting it in here for searchability
Listed is the open/close, (duration), cam height, and lift. Letter= Cam ID mark Intake A-26/46 (252) 35.49 9.5mm B-21/43 (244) 35.20 9.0mm C-23/57 (260) 35.79 10mm D-21/51 (252) 35.49 9.5mm E-16/48 (244) 35.20 9.0mm F-26/38 (244) 35.20 9.0mm G-18/62 (260) 35.79 10mm H-Unassign I-Unassign J-21/51 (252) 34.91 8.5mm K-18/62 (260) 35.38 9.3mm Exhaust A-55/9 (244) 35.20 9.0mm B-Unassign C-57/15 (252) 35.49 9.5mm D-54/18 (252) 35.49 9.5mm E-43/17 (240) 34.91 8.5mm F-53/07 (240) 34.91 8.5mm G-63/21 (264) 35.49 9.5mm H-63/21 (264) 34.91 8.5mm I-Unassign J-57/15 (252) 34.91 8.5mm K-Unassign |

I have torqued upto 100 ft lbs MAX with regular ARP's. I torque the ARP L19's tho to 95 ft lbs.... I think about 85 ish should be good tho for a low boost motor (under 20 psi) |

so what I have gleamed is that regular motor oil for lube and torque to 90 I finally figured out which cams and head I am using, thanks to that chart. The head has been resurfaced now and I will be swapping in the cams from the 93 turbo head. What do you guys think about advancing/retarding a tooth. do people do that anymore? also, I may have my ebay 16g traded off to a honda kid for his "eclipse turbo" that happens to carry the part number of a EVO 3 16g |

Yes, in 20ftlb increments in the stock pattern. I'd stick to the the stock cam position. Advancing/retarding the cams should be done with cam gears and even that is when you're looking for the very last bit of power out of a combination. |
