To start off, I have a 92 plymoth colt with a 4g63t with a fwd dsm transmission. I did the shift lever swap from the 1.5L trans that 89mirageman has a write up for, but the shifter is way far back. Neutral sits about where 2nd should be but centered. Without it running I can put it to what feels like, 2nd 4th and reverse but with it running it won't go into any of those gears. Is there some kind of adjustment I need to be doing to the cables themselves? Any help would be appreciated. Will post a picture of where my shifter sits as soon as the email from my phone goes through. Thanks for helping me get my car on the road!

Thats weird, if you use all the original 3rd gen parts it should be right.

Those dont look like csm cables to me. Is'nt the side to side cable suppose to be adjustable?

I thought DSM ones were adjustable on that side as well, but its been a while since I owned a dsm.... I though with the 1.5 cables you had to install a turnbuckle in them to make them long enough as well.

90 dsm cables were both adjustable and the 91-94 's were only adjustable on the front to back cable. Here is a pic I just took of my 3rd gen csm cables, these have never been out of the car.

As far as I know they've never been changed, I never changed them myself and the guy before me doesn't know anything about cars other than how to drive.

They did away with the adjustable cables on the 92 model year CSM's. I have a set of those in my car too, but I had two sets of adjustable ones that I sold to another member.

I ran into this issue once before swapping a couple of KM206's in a DSM. Even having swapped out the lever, the KM206 from the CSM didn't fit the DSM quite right.

I had to cut the arm like this (actually opposite of this because it was from a CSM to a DSM), bend it, then weld the gap shut. It works like a charm.

It sounds like the levers on the trans were welded with it in gear instead of in neutral.
