This is my first trip into the belly of the beast, and the nice fellow helping me with it went ahead and cleaned all the parts while I was gone so I have no idea if this part has a gasket or not. I cant find one in my gasket set or while searching "oil pump gasket" online. He swears that he had to scrape gasket off of it.... so, what do I do?

That is the rear oil pump cover and it does not get a gasket or sealant of any type. Also I see that you have removed the gears and balnce shaft, are you doing a balance shaft elimination while your in there?

I would use JB weld on the front balance shaft plug for the extra security.

Or buy a new pump and get the factory 4g61 setup that comes with the plug already installed. JB couldn't hurt then either I guess.

Make sure to use thread locker blue or equivalent on the stubby shaft to gear bolt

Don't forget to flip the new bearings and replace the gasket for the main case
