There is a wire that turns on the small field current. Terminal L.

8-157 is the electrical diagram schematic number, not the page number, that is page 183.

There is a 10 amp fuse you have to check to confirm a good circuit.
Now is a good time to invest in a test light, so you know a complete circuits wiring can carry a minimum load of a small bulb, and also invest in a digital volt ohm meter DVOM. DVOMs will tell you circuit resistance, allow checking of diodes to confirm voltage drops, etc etc.

Check that 10 amp fuse then confirm the rest of those circuits with a set of wires and alligator clips from RadioShack/The Source or whoever, are installed to make check wiring from inside the car to the outside in the engine bay, that much easier.

Thanks, i ll have to look into it some more....

My tach would always act up, but then car finally wouldnt start a few days ago and i thought it to be alternator, swapped it out for a gvr4 reman alternator and still did the same, the thing is that, when my tach is working, the alternator would put out a charge, then once it wouldnt work, alternator would not put out charge.

Everytime the tach would die, i revved motor and it would kick back on, now its just not working at all.

Maybe check the ECU if the wiring checks out. There is a circuit that excites the alternator and starts the charging cycle. If that circuit is damaged in the ECU, then you will have the issues

So havent gotten around to anything yet, but i had to go move car today, and it was colder, 45° air temps and alternator and tach works again?

Is it a temp sensor deal?

Alternator function is not related to the function of the tach in any way.

They even wire through separate harness's that do not intersect.

Brushes on the verge of not putting enough pressure on the stator rings, can cause intermittent charge/no charge, as was the case of my first alternator.

I give up, going to go into all the wiring from battery to alternator.
