Is there a way to start a 4g63 without the gearbox on? I've tried and the starter is slightly off alignment. I could try holding it while a mate turns it over, but i'm too whoosie for that.... :(

yeah, it should take maybe 15 minutes if that to just get it bolted up so you can start it (though prolly less than 5 minutes with everything already prepped)

Only way to do it without the gearbox to support the starter is to fire it up from the other end of the crank, have done it before with a decent ratle gun.

Wow crank side, thats lateral thinking! I'll have to wait for a mate to come over so I can get the gearbox into position. Thanks fellers!

If rattle gun=impact driver, then that is very, well scarry!

Yep, Key thing to remember is to only put the tip of the driver in the crank pulley as far as the retaining bearing, any further and you can't get it out fast enough when it fires.

You could always make a bracket that holds the starter on and bolts up to the block where the tranny does.

Bolt the starter to the start plate and just hold it for reinforcement.

If you don't have a starter plate, put it on.
