Ok my supposedly good 2g 7bolt block is about to into my eclipse. So I was scrapping the leftover oil pan gasket material off when i grabbed the rod. Should there be any movement at all? I can move the rod side to side just barely but there is a little movement. Is that normal or is this block no good? :-?

It has to be able to move a little. If you have ever noticed that the crank journals are radiuses on the edges. This keeps the rod centered. Consider this, the crank move laterally. So if there were no play when you push on the clutch (when you push on the clutch the crank moves back and forth on the thrust bearing) the rod would bind in the journal and the piston pin would bind in the piston. So by allowing a little rod play you avoid binding.

Bingo-----
