This has been happening for a long time, just never posted about it. Sometimes vacuum will be good, 12-15 @ idle, dropping to 19-20 when decelerating in gears. Then if car is shut off and restarted it will change to only 6-9 @ idle and 12-15 decel. or so. Or if restarted will go back to normal or vice versa. Doesn't seem to change hot or cold. Have chacked for boost leaks. Throttlebody seals? Anybody else got this symptom?

Have you tried an alternate quality gauge to corroberate this phenomenon as being related to the car and not the test equipment? Passing thought....

make sure the signal line to the gauge isn't pinched, torn, collapsing under vacuum, etc.

I had a cheap rubber vacuum line running to a gauge before that had a pinhole that wouldn't leak until you made enough boost or vacuum to cause it to pull air through the tiny hole.

also...would EGR affect vaccuum readings? just throwing out ideas
