Admin takeover of this post.

Current axle part numbers:

Carquest:

pass side 1.6L turbo, Carquest rds 3212 - new p/n 410049
driver side 1.6L turbo, Carquest rds 3229 - new p/n 410059

Cardone:

Drivers Side part # = 60-3040
Passengers Side part # = 60-3177

Autozone: (Unproven)

7953n driver
10119n pass

Easy way to tell if they're rebuilt original turbo axles or reman'd, originals have green cups.

You have a Mirage, that automatically *makes* you have to have some form of Mirage axles, period. Mirage axles are the only ones that fit into the hub properly. Theoretically you could use any mitsu transmission side cup, as they are all the same.

Thankfully mitsu made a turbo version of the Mirage, since the turbo axles are a little bit different from regular Mirage axles. You can use either Mirage turbo or AWD DSM intermediate shaft that bolts to the engine.

You can get axles (not including core charge) from Carquest with a lifetime warrantee, no questions asked. This is what I am running.

Driver side Part number: RDS 3229, $74 after core.
Passenger side : RDS 3212 $74 after core

They are CCT axles, sometimes they are shipped with a cheesy transmission side cup with a circlip the size of a paper clip. I had one of those on my car and that side of the axle constantly popped out a little bit, especially with a welded center diff. Tell em to order another one and you should end up with one looking like the OEM cup and the OEM circlip should be able to snap onto it.

So I call Carquest today to order a driversside axle and they havve no clue what thoes part #'s are. This is after I bought one from another parts stare and it was the long unequal leanght one. I'm getting frustrated  Napa wants me to sell my first unborn child before they even order one for me that might be the wrong one.

just order from advance then. there's a thread somewhere on here with the part number. and you can order them online and have em sent to the nearest advance to you.

I don't get it. None of the stores have them in stock. They've always had to order them from Chicago warehouse. Neither of those part numbers are for the part that bolts to the block, only the CV part of the axle.

So the carquest axle I had in the car broke it's CV boot clamp. I called up Carquest with that part number listed above, they ordered a new axle from Chicago. I walked in with my old axle and receipt from 2005 and exchanged it for the brand new axle.

Fits great in the car. Over the years I somehow ended up with a brand new spare set of Carquest axles so I have 2 drivers and 2 passenger axles all covered under that lifetime warranty.

I was going to post this elsewere for SS but it seemed fit here.

Here are the axle shafts I got at Autozone and also pictured are what was in my car.
Image

On top is a Turbo DSM compared to the Turbo colt Right side axle shaft. Obvios length differance.

The left side is a bit more confusing. The upper one on the left side set is the one I ran in my car all last year. Autozone said it was the same part number as a Turbo DSM but I thought that could not be right, but ordered it anyway.
Part number pictured below
When I got it I was surprised it was exact. I think the differance is in the inner half of the axleshaft, but I do not have a DSM one to compare it to.

So this is what I have come up with. Both axle shafts were about 100 each.
