I have just completed with my 63t swapped..I am having a tough time deciding which intercooler to install???? Do you guys think it is worth mounting a side mount intercooler or a front mount intercooler? Which is easier to install. |

Side mount is easier, but depenidn gon how much power you want to make the FMIC may be the way to go. |

Just mount the SMIC on the front and run a civic rad. I'm experimenting with it right now. |

Can you send me pix of your set up currently. I do not want to mount this on the side of the fender...it is too tight and I do not want to take a chance of drilling something wrong...

or you can buy a Supra sidemount... can handle alot more power than a 1g sidemount, still easier mounting and cheaper than a FMIC. DSM guys have been doing it for some time now. |

I did not think there was enough room in the CSM wheel well to run a supra SMIC. |

Here is a situation with a sidemount on a 4g61t in my buddies car: He needs tuning so I bring my datalogger and we go out by his house to do a few pulls. Its a little chilly outside so its perfect tuning weather. First pull, some knock when boost hits and then running very lean up top with a lot of timing and knock. I adjust the SAFC accordingly and we turn around for another pull. We do another pull and it looks great, great timing, hardly any knock and good O2s. So we turn around for another pull to fine tune. Do the pull and the f'in sidemount is completely heatsoaked to shit. Knock out the ass, timing all f'ed up. I was pissed. We immidiately go to his house to determine piping for an EVO8 front mount that he has. Lesson here, get a FMIC or Supra side mount at the worst. |

Yeah, a front-mount is one of those things that I now just always do right of the bat. Don't mess with the sidemount, if you must, just wait and save your money for a decent flowing front-mount. IMO, it's just like with a fuel pump. Never bother buying the 190 lph, just buy the 255 lph, and never have to worry about it from then on. (contrary to what some people say, the whole thing about needing an AFPR with a 255 is bull). AFAIK, putting in the half-size civic radiator is not the best way to go, it's undersized for the cooling needed (I had to use two of them to cool a 4G63). Might be fine if you only do drag racing though. |

Yeah, if you're dealing with a 4G63 this is true. Even on DSM's the sidemount gets easily heat soaked with vigorous driving. I don't totally agree with the fuel pump thing. 190's are fine for alot of cars. An easy way around alot of fuel issues is a fuel pump rewire kit. But if you're gonna be lazy just use the 255. And unless you live in a relatively cold climate, the civic radiator thing should be for drag cars only.

Has anyone ever used a Johnny Racecar FMIC in a CSM? Very affordable and they seem pretty nice. I would think they would do fine with 16g or a little larger. |
