Hey all.

Well, my tranny blew on my 92 AWD. 2nd gear lost a few teeth and they went through the case. The tranny is repairable, but...

Anyways, I picked up a 92 Colt 200GT w/ 1.5L in it for 500 bucks (canadian).

I have heard of 2 trannies being in the colt, KM210 and KM201. I'm unsure which one is in the there right now. A friend of mine has a Galant FWD tranny right now bolted up to his DSM, and is willing to part with it for a very reasonable price. I do believe that they are different trannies (one being the KM210 and one being the KM201).

Which one is more feasible to handle the power of a 2.0 out of my Laser (20G, etc)? Which is better to build up, or are they the same tranny? It'll be getting a Quaife and some other work before the engine swap will even happen.

Thanks all!

The km210 came off the c/m t's and gvr4's. It will handle the most of the power off the 4g63...or you can get a hold of a 1g fwd turbo tranny.

I'm pretty sure that the KM210 *wasn't* on a GVR4 because thats an AWD platform. 89 Turbo Colt, yes, I'm aware of that.

The tranny choices I have available to me are:

FWD Galant 2.0 NT (4G63)
92 Colt 1.5L (4G15)

Are they the same? I know for a fact that the Galant tranny will bolt up, simply because my friend has it in his DSM. My question is which is better?

Sorry for any confusion.

By the way, the KM-206 were in the 1.6L NT.

Get the Galant tranny its the KM-210.
Get the Colt tranny too

The colt trans is only the KM-201, weaker components. I'm not even sure you can use the 206 or 210 on the 1.5L engine because it is a 5-bolt crank and in order to use the 206 or 210 you need a larger flywheel/clutch setup. Both the 1.6L and 2.0L 4G63 turbo and non have 6-bolt cranks. The 1.5L flywheel won't work in the other trannies because the bellhousing is larger.

Jason, I was under the impression that the KM201 that's currently in the car would bolt up to a 4G63. Is this the case? Could (should) I keep it around as an extra for when the 2.0 gets dropped into the Colt?

I can get the KM210 (Galant) tranny off of my friend for dirt cheap, including the whole flywheel assembly that he is currently using in his DSM. Can the KM210 be modified with dual cone synchros in 2nd like the AWD trannies can be? I'd like to make this thing as bulletproof as I can.

You see, he got the galant tranny and swapped it into his AWD (made it FWD) because he wanted to rebuild his AWD tranny. My AWD tranny blew, so we put his AWD tranny into my car. I don't think I'm going to go to the hassle of rebuilding my AWD tranny when I have a perfectly good colt sitting in the back yard now... see how it goes?

Confusing? Maybe... works for me though!

>bolt up to a 4G63.

Sure it will bolt up, but I'm not sure you're going to be able to find a flywheel/clutch that will fit inside the KM-201 bellhousing and still fit on the 6-bolt crank.

I'm under the impression that the KM-201 is nearly identical to the FM522 FWD DSM trans so anything you can do with those you shuold be able to do with the KM-210.

oops... the km210 did come from the galant n/t not the gvr4's. The fm522(f5m22) will fit its just the km206 renamed. You'll need a 1g 4g63 n/t flywheel and a c/m turbo clutch setup(215mm) to fit.
