Tim, none of those ecu's are eprom, and CANNOT be programmed/burned. pick yourself up a 90 eprom or a 61t eprom ecu, then have it socketed and the capacitors replaced by a respected computer repair place (or friend, they are always cheaper)

then have keydiver (the same dsmchips site you posted before) burn you a chip based on your current set up, what rpm you want etc...

and KEEP your afc, you will only need to make VERY minor adjsutments (no greater than 5-7% if your setup is exactly the one its programmed for) due to elevation and temp etc... and if you use a 2g maf, use a 609, the 055 maf is junk for an n/a and will run VERY rich at the top end.

believeme, it works, my bro's tubo colt made 315whp and 335 trq on pump gas and an evo 16g, and 550's very basic minor boltons, and the afc was "straight up" at a nice healthy 11.5 afr under wot.

if you need a 550/2g chip for an eprom ecu i have one from keydiver that i will let go for cheap. (no 2 step/launch control as it was originally burned for an automatic dsm, but it works well)

Keep it simple and DON'T reinvent the wheel.

Hmmm, so an an non-Eprom unit cannot be socketted? I'm surprised, but should have known. The chip guy just mentioned the same thing to me not minutes ago. Okay so the search for a 4g61T/4g63T ECU begins.

So, is there a genuine preference out there on which Eprom unit to find

4G61T, 4G63T, 4G63T (2nd GEN) ? I'm not sold on having to go big if the chip makes up for the rest.

If you convert your car to 91+ style you can use both 1G and 2G eprom ecu's with DSMLINK.

The socketing is getting done before it hits Canadian soil.

New question still on the topic of my first problem:

How long before the MPI relays "usually" wear out? My car has 180K+ km's on it now, so my key has been cycled more than a few times already. The MPI getting tripped by the ECU was not more than a few key starts worth IMO, but which MPI would I replace the one in my car with? Are the 89 Turbo and 90 DSM the same MPI relay?
CAPS is inconclusive because the Eclipse starts listing in 94 :-?
Still working on getting the Japanese CAPS reference point.

mpi relays dont really wear out, my car now has 203000 MILES on it, and its on its original mpi relay
and the one i wrecked prior to that had 256000 miles on its o.g relay as well.
