Ok, next item. My 4g Colt has a fairly tight front end with standard steering, but the back rolls like a french wh@re! I would definitely say worse than normal. Its so bad I can wiggle the steering wheel and get a lateral pivot out of the car. Any ideas on how to tighten up the rear suspension? Keep in mind this is a 2 door with independent rear suspension. :-?

Are the springs worn out and the shocks blown?

No they bounce like they should. This is actually a flat or sideways motion which is really out of character for the car. These cars have very little weight so having a fat behind is unusual, something isn't right. I will have a look underneath soon as the rain stops tomorrow.

You might have some buggered bushings for the rear suspension. The only reasons for sway side to side like a gust of wind pushing the rear, are most likely sloppy joints and/or blown rear shocks/struts. Going over bumps causing the sway would be excessive wheel hop, or simply turning on level pavement and the car behaves very oddly (like a rear end that is too live or responding out of character) would be sloppy bushings/alignment issues. Get the rear end off the ground, and get it on stands. Shakes the wheels side to side, pull in out on both the upper and lower parts of the tire and get a pry bar in between any joints where you can exercise them sideways to simulate a joint moving in the wrong direction. Let us know what you find.

I will do that this week when the shop is open. If the bushings are pooched can I still get replacements? Parts are becoming scarce, especially for this one with the independent rear setup. It kinda looks like what you would find in an eclipse, is that true?

1G DSM FWD should have a rear just like a c50-60 3G CSM, so someone will have chime with what that rear end looks like, but I thought it was different.

If it is a 93+ and was originally shipped to North America, then yes, that is the fourth generation Mirage/Colt/Summit.

The 93 and up Mirages have an Independent rear suspension. Check for play in your trailing arms.
and worn wheel bearings.
I'm in the midst of redoing my ENTIRE front and rear suspension on my on my 94 LS as mine has been in storage for 4 years while I was stationed overseas.

That car looks just like mine but with a spoiler, better rims, and about 100 less dints in the body. Lookin good Mr. Hyde

BTW I also have a bad rear tire with very weak sidewalls which accounts for a lot of the body roll.

Speaking of bushings who on earth still stocks bushing kits for these cars?

Post subject:  *** UPDATE!!! ***

Amazing what fresh tires does for a car! The body roll is now back within normal range. Now to test it on the open highway at highway speeds. Should be fun! 8)
