 Post subject: Me again, sway bar issue

I was looking under the car and the hump on the original swaybar is touching the transfer case where it goes over it on the right side. I thought I had read about a Elantra swaybar fitting a CSM. Does it clear the transfer case better than the original bar? If it does, what year Elantra?

I may be wrong, but I think the Elantra sway bar will have the same curves/bends/dimensions. The only difference is that it is thicker. In that case it would probably rub worse for your application.

What cross member are you using on your swap? The cyborg cross member doesn't work with the North American front sway bar, IIRC.

I did not use any of the stock mounts. I custom made the mounts using parts of the original engine mounts from the 1.5 and the Eclipse mounts that came with the engine. I am using no cross member at all. I can pry the sway bar to the passenger side and easily get 1/4-1/2 inch but as I drive it migrates to the drivers side.

I see, so the bar moves right to left and hits the transfer case. Sorry I thought it hits a cross member. I would look at the end links to see if they are old and need replacement.

On my swapped car I have a cross member under the engine front to back and it has a notch where the cross member comes close to the sway bar. However, my sway bar does not move sideways enough to hit the transfer case.

Can you post a picture?

Yes, I will on Monday, the Summit sleeps at the shop.
I did not know I could buy motor/transmission mounts to bolt the 4g63 in. I did all custom mounts and then found I could not put the C/V axles in because the engine/transmission was too low. i then remade all 4 mounts again.

Some sway bars are now designed with retainer sleeves on either side of the bars, but again, they were designed with those particular arms and such to maybe compensate for movement dynamics.
Not sure if you could modify the original bar in such a way, or have a custom bar bender do that and weld on retainers, then make custom brackets.
This is the first of a bar hitting a major driveline component that I can remember, but I don't always catch certain things here.

Sorry, I forgot about this post. I looked at the sway bar last week and it is not hitting the transfer case. It is close, probably about 1/4" away but it isn't hitting so it must of been racked somewhat and driving it moved it to a neutral position.
