As a few of you know I picked up a swapped 91 Summit.
I have since built a tubular cross member with new solid motor mounts due to the previous ones breaking.
Now I know some people say you can't use DSM axles, I on the other hand have had no issues...(Maybe this is because DSM 5 lug hubs were used)
Also it seems the steering arms are hitting my sway bar and rubbing......

Now the rear end.....The factory CSM shocks were used, the previous owner cut the lower mount off another shock and welded it to the bottom of the other shock mount....Here is a picture.

Is there a better way of doing this? I would like to upgrade the suspension but I don't want to have to modify a brand new set of KYBs. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having sever rubbing issues on all 4 tires, for the time being it has 1g dsm 16s. I'm hoping switching to a 15" rim will fix this issue.

Showing the rear camber.....

To me that doesn't look safe, maybe if it was braced on both sides with some flat bar or something.

You should be able to just press the middle of the dsm bushing out and press it into the new rear strut. I think you have to use csm struts as they are quite a bit longer. I would modify the upper plates somehow so that you gain the extra length needed there instead of the bottom of the strut, but thats just me.

I'm not thrilled with how it was done and I'm sure it will break on a heavy launch.
When you say "modify"? Are you talking maybe make some spacers?

If you don't mind raising the back with stock AWD DSM springs, that would mostly solve the camber issue.

Have you had any issues with said part working as a hinge?

No, I welded them onto the trailing arms after I was sure they were where at the right angle. The DSM strut mount is tapered, so it wasn't really moving anyway when it was tightened on there.

How about using DSM or EVO8 shocks?

If I can make EVO8 syspension to work on my Summit Wagon AWD, I am sure it should be doable on a your car!

For reference Evo 8 stuff has been fitted onto GVR4's but I don't know how far into they go.
If it gets to people wanting to see that, I believe there is a Tech Knowledge post at galantvr4.org regarding this setup.

Do you have more pictures of how you fabricated the parts? How thick of steel?

How much adjustment do you have left in the trailing arm adjustment cams? Might tune out some of that camber.

No sorry. I just made them of stuff I had laying around. The pipe in the center is pretty thick; like a piece of old threaded water pipe used for plumbing. I actually have a piece of the flat steel in front of me, and I have this camera phone, and this USB stick...

That thick...

I happen to have some of the same steel. Looks like I'll be tackling the rear over the course of the next couple weekends. Thanks again for the help

Why have the dsm axles been considered unusable? Both axles on my car are from a 1g.

Also do you happened to have the dimensions on the part you made?

Did you see what I did to solve that issue. I lowered the strut tower.
