So not to revive a dead thread- but I was just thinking why not custom fab some bars, adapter and reinforcement for the rear bar to hold the 1g pumpkin to have the best of both worlds on the Vista rear?

Even adapt the mustache bar that goes across on the 1g pumpkin to the underframe of the C10? That seems to be like a good solution. Its only rear suspension for a lightweight car that will adapt the easiest to the C10 without fabbing up strut towers. You're not holding up a heavy DSM so why not?

I'm not sure if the bolt holes line up to the C10 on the Vista's rear, but my guess is that there are bare spots for them if there aren't any already in place. It looks like the same suspension travel as well. Might need to be creative and mess with springs. Convert the rear drums to disk and figure out the CV shaft situation. I feel like it would work well and its nothing that has been done or documented before.

Plus you get a rear swaybar!! That excites the crap out of me.

Heres a thread I posted earlier this year, I had the same questions for my Hyundai Excel, Which I have been told is a Modified C10 Chassis.

I was able to get a good look at this rear end/subframe today.

The car is an AWD 5-speed 1991 Colt Vista wagon. The rear looks similar to the setup in my hyundai excel, hence my interest in starting this thread. I was able to find a part number on the pumpkin today MB290516 can anyone tell me if this is compatible with an AWD manual DSM Tranny?

Like my car, the Vista does not use a rear macphearson strut. And it looks like the rear of the vista is a torsion type with no coil spring.

Heres the pics.

The AWD 4 door C10 wagon has the same rear suspension type as the C10 (my car) and Hyundai Excel/Scoupe, so it will accept the springs and most likely bolt up. If I had more money I would buy Hyundai Scoupe lowering springs and Koni reds because they will fit on my car.

The Vista rears might not be ideal because of the torsion bars (might have sloppy handling?) and wouldn't be a semi-bolt in solution. You'd probably have to be even more inventive and custom fab the whole thing..
