ok i bought a tranny and transfer case for 50 bucks the only thing that is wrong with the tranny, it wont go into 5th gear,

can anyone give me an idea of whats going on before i open it up?

what about reverse? if no then its either the roll pin holding the shift fork... or the fork itself is broken.
if its only 5th gear then the only thing I can think of is the syncro is so bad it wont let it go into gear.

thats what iam thinking...

1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and reverse are fine

I think I remember reading something about one of the nuts backing off a bit causing it not to go into 5th. May want to check Tuners or somewhere where they deal with dsm's a bit more.

Remove wheel, pull of the end cover bolts, verify that the 32mm(?) nut is not falling off the shaft.

i have pulled it off the cover both of the nuts are secure, but when i shift it into 5th, it goes into gear but the syncro pops off

i will take pic tonite and post them.
