When i did the awd swap i used the tranny out of a galant gsx (donor car) and its been holding up really good but my pressure plate is starting to slip so im going to pull the tranny to replace it but i have a awd turbo tranny laying around that i could put in there. But I was just wondering what is differances between them? Am I going to notice more top end? Also will I have to switch out the rear end at the same time? Thanks for any help

If you're using a Galant GSX rear-end you're kind of screwed because they have a different gear ratio than a typical DSM or GVR4 rear-end. You're sort of stuck with a Galant GSX tranny or something with the higher final-drive ratio that comes in those cars. Unless you do a rear-end swap, you can't use an AWD DSM tranny.

Here's a really good read from Galantvr4.org:

And this is the link to vfaq.com transmission gear ratios for quick reference:

If you end up pulling the GGSX trans/rear end and want to sell it. Let me know, I'm always looking for spares.

thanks for the link, just curious what do csm's with an E/T/L awd tranny top out at? im at 145mph at 7000rpm with the galant gsx tranny and if i was reading it right it said the G GSX has a smaller rear end so wouldnt that give it more top end? also why do/did must ppl say not to use the galant parts? is because there not strong enough?

The Galant GSX has a shorter final-drive ratio than a 1g AWD, and I also believe that the read-end ratio is shorter on the GGSX. 1g AWD's can go much, much faster than you should ever think about going in a CSM. Scot Gray did 184mph on stock gearing with an 8,500rpm rev limiter in a 1g AWD.

What's wrong with 180 mph in a csm? LOL. Do wheel bearings explode? Is anyone crazy enough to try it?

Well, I wouldn't go 180mph in a DSM let alone a CSM. That's just me, I'm a careful person. Ask b00stfreak what happens when you do 200+ in one of these cars.

The ggsx trans is based of the M31 series transmission and runs typical ball bearings and not tapered bearings like the M33 transmissions. The tapered bearings are what allow the trans to hold up to higher torque output of the turbo engine.

Short version: It's like running a NT trans in Turbo DSM. You are living on borrowed time.
