well i have a 1992 tranny and i want to put it into my 1990 eagle talon. I read something about the splines on the tranny to tcase being different and also the shifter linkage being different also.

what do i have to do in order to make this swap succesfull?

i also have a 1992 t-case as well if that makes a difference.

The '92 tranny has a 23-spline output shaft and transfer case, where-as the '90 tranny has a 22-spline. As long as you have the '92 transfer case you'll be fine. That, and swap shifter linkages. It's also a good idea to use the shifter base from a '92 if you can find one, because you'll get a shorter throw and a tighter feel that way.

Use the 90 shifter cable mount, and a 90 shifter.

i thought i have to use the 91- 94 style cables in my 1990 to get the 92 tranny to work.

'91-'94 cables, yes. I believe everything else you use has to be from a '90 though. The picture above suggests you can modify the '91-'94 stuff to work with a '90.

I've just got done doing this in my 90 tsi i found out the hard way the shifter cables i bought were not 91-94 they were in fact 90 shifter cables that will piss you off...Anyways i just ended up putting the shifter arms from the 90 tranny on my new tranny you have to drill out the pin on the arm pic above then pull it put on new tranny and tap the hole put abolt in then put the other arm on and waaalaaa a shifting tranny...Make sure to use lock tight and make sure it's tight if not the arm will have slack in it...
There is a write up about swaping a f3m55 in a csm replacing the km210 i think it's in the achives you will be doing the same thing...

Undoing a couple bolts is quite a bit easier than drilling out the shift lever pin. Just do what 904g63summit said to do.

well i finally did the swap and everything worked fine. I didn't bother drilling out the pin to replace the arm with the 1990... instead i just drilled a new hole and used a bolt and nut to relocate the pin to that it will shift properly. I also swapped the upper shift arm as it was a bolt on affair
