54 liter fuel cell, burnt maybe 4 liters going to the scales, so about 50 in it at the time of the measurement. Forgot to take out the complete 1/2'' socket set and complete 3/8'' socket set.

1250 kgs, which is 2755 lbs.

According to Car & Driver the stock 1.6 turbo 89 colt curb weight (believe that is full of fluids) is 2545 lbs. Just over 200 lbs difference.

Not sure what the stock awd talon comes in at, if anybody knows, post it. I would like to know the difference for comparison.

Good to know, thanks for posting this. I've always wondered how much weight the AWD stuff adds to these cars.

Oh, and for those of you that don't speak Canadian, 50 liters = rougly 13 gallons. :D

Have you tried any weight reduction? I know 400 lbs is alot but I'm not sure it woud be worth the hassle. Seems you could gut a Laser alot easier :P .

I would have thought an awd csm would be alot lighter.

It doesn't suprise me very much. If the car weighs 2,500lb and some change from the factory, and then you add all the weight of the AWD components, not to mention all the extra metal you used to fab it all in, and then did no other weight reduction to offset all of that...well, you can do the math. :P

I am happy with the way it is for now, I like the fact that people look inside and see a full interior and looks normal.

So why is my 4g coupe so much lighter than a 3g hatch... even from the factory? Apparently, mine's roughly 2200-2300...

4G's are lighter than 3G's in general.

It does sound odd because they appear to be a bit bigger of a car. I have read in multiple places that the 4G is significantly lighter than the 3g.

Thats awsome...
I need to get get mine to a scale.

As for the laser thing. Remember his car is full interior factory. So anything you could do to the laser to lighten it up you could do to the AWD Colt.

400lbs is roughly 15% of the cars wieght. So the talon will need 15% more power just to run the same times.
So if the 500hp colt runs a 400lb heavier talon the talon is gonna need 600ish hp just to run similiar times. Not to mention the DSM reliablility threshold at 500+ hp levels.

If you lighten both cars way up. 2000lb colt vs 2400lb laser the differance grows. Now the laser gonna need even more power to run with the 500hp colt.

Not to mention the CSM is a way better looking car   :butthead:

Great job on the AWD scale action.

Hey guys! I'm new here ....just got a 89 GT Hatch. Yeay!

haha Yeah for a stock Talon/Eclipse that sounds about right, but it real easy to take weight out of those cars.
I've got a 91 AWD talon and it wieghs 2780lbs with stock wheels/cheap tires(49lbs each :o ), Stock Seats (46lbs each), stupid automatic seat belts(30lbs each). I've taken out alot of stuff though already. AC, Switched power steering to manual steering, removed all emissions stuff, Spare tire/jack/tools removed. Front bumper cut to install a race FMIC, and removed rear bumper. All interior panels, and carpet are there, but you would notice there are no back seats. I cant wait until I get some lightweight seats, wheels, and harnesses. That should get me down to about 2630lbs which is very nice! BUT a 10pt cage is going cancel that weight saving so I'll be back to 2780lbs as my final weight.

My 93 Lancer EVO1 weighs 2740lbs with full interior, a full tank of gas, and all spare tire, jack, and tools ....So awesome! Then I took out the AC, and spare tire, Jack cause I have Triple AAA. ...havent weight it yet but I bet its around 2670lbs now.

I just picked up a 89 dodge colt GT. Its getting a 4G63 swap right now. (I love the 4G63!!) ....I havent got to drive the car yet, but I'm really excited! I'm happy to finally be apart of the Colt/Mirage Hatch crew! Halla!! ...its gonna be my new little toy (actually my daily driver, but its gonna be a fun daily driver) I love sleeper cars!!! :D
