everyone is charging an arm and a leg for everything, new and used, awd these days. So getting awd parts from a junkyard from an eclipse is getting pricey. would the 5-speed awd summit van parts be a good solution? are they the same as the eclipse parts?

The awd trans parts are pretty much the same as a 2g awd, as far as suspension, they are totally different.

An early Van, like 90-93 will use the same mounts and tranny as a 1G. I have a Summit/Expo AWD Tranny that Im putting in my 89 Mirage but using it as a FWD.

My van even though it's a 95 its has a 1g tranny and from the looks of it, it looks like a lot of 1g parts in it.

You sure? I'm 99% positive it's a M31 series trans and is built lighter than a typical DSM AWD. (DSM=M33)

I always thought those vans had the 2g style transmission and 2g style suspensions.

Don't they have the wideblock 4g6x engines? If so, I don't see it bolting to the narrowblock 4g6x.

The 92's (like mine) have the older 1g style tranny with the mounts on the engine block. The 93+ have the 2g style with the mounts on the tranny. They are also narrow block 4G63's. The D50's and Mighty Max's have the wideblock 2.4's.

The rear suspension is really nothing like a 1g or 2g. They use a coil spring and a separate shock.

I just picked up 93 AWD Summit Wagon and it has 2G style transmission mounting (motor mount on the tranny and not on the block).

These wagons came out in 92, so are you saying that they had just one oddball year (92) with 1G style tranny/engine mounting? I find this highly unlikely

Can somene with a 92 wagon chime-in on this?

Thanks,

Yes, there was one oddball year for some reason. Mine is a 92 AWD with the 2.4. It has a true 6 bolt engine and the mounts are all on the block. The tranny only has the upper mount that mounts to the framerail. Also the timing belt mount is an "L" shaped mount like 1g dsm's use.

BTW, where did you get the 93 from? Was it Gary's?

Yes, I picked up Gary's car.

That is very strange that they went with the different engine/tranny scheme after just one year  . But I do stand corrected

I am not sure if that is good or bad for me :). I guess I would rather have 1G style tranny, as this give me more options for donor trannies (you can use ether 1G or 2G tranny).

That is actually our old van. Gary bought if from us last year. My wife put about 10k on that thing driving to back and forth to work every day. After we sold it we missed it so much that we bought another one. They're not the best looking things but I love the way they drive. Plus you can haul a ton of junkyard parts in the back. :P

You MAY be able to get a crossmember from a 92 model and use a 1g style tranny. Not sure if the holes are the same or not but I agree with you. I can't see why they would change too much stuff between the two.
