Ok guys, I found someone who wants to collocate a box with me. I haven't really had any problems with dreamhost, infact I really really like them but the benifits of running my own box are huge. The main part you guys would notice is near instant page loads. The box I would be using is faster than the one that runs the site now and that one hosts who-knows how many other pages. It will cost more though... that is the one part I don't like. I will also not be handing out mail accounts. The effort it takes to run a mail server does not make it worth it. Gmail may work nicely for that. Any input? -paul |

Paul, Either is fine with me. I don't know why you don't do what I do get 4 meg DSL and a static IP from your ISP. I do all my hosting on an old IBM Dual P3 server with a gig of ram it servers up lots of pages even takes a kicking with MYSQL never a lick of outage... |

I never ran a server so I don't know for sure if the benefits outweight the costs. If I had cash around I'd donate some to you to run the site. |

ADSL is spotty at best 3.1) *DSL for the speeds we need costs WAY more. |

How long has it been at the new location? Once or twice over the last week or so the site has been slow or altogether unresponsive. It might have been during the transitional period. |

it is not at the new location yet. I have the server built and most of the software installed. I need to move the database over and phpBB to test it. I then need to actually get it into the data center. ($$$) It will be a _minimum_ of $50 a month. -paul |
