Ok everyone. I had a great plan to make this move 100% transparent to everyone however my current hosting provider blocks ALL mysql connections so "I'm boned"

Here is what to expect: A disabled message board until the DNS servers you look at are updated.

1: The old server message board will be locked so no more changes happen to the database.
2: I copy the database and all files to the new host
3: I update the DNS servers to point at the new host.
4: I re-enable the new host message board.
5: When your DNS servers have the changes, the board "magicly" works again.
6: I fly down to florida with a clue-by-four and visit the old hosting provider ;)

the big "?" is #5. Depending on the world, this step can take anywhere from 48 seconds to 48 hours. I may get motivated and do the move later today.

::sigh::

Oh well. :( This is the downside of being a glorified digital babysitter. I hope everything will work as it should (I guess it will NEVER EVER work w/o some troubles  ). I also wish you luck and nerves made of kevlar. :-?

*cross fingers while hunched under his desk* "When is the roof coming down on me!" Hope you don't need one of these :drinkers: before, during, or after this all happens. Good Luck Paul. 8)

FYI: I'm doing a test copy of everything onto the new host.

-I already have phpAds working.
-I'm inserting the data for the forum + once I change some paths it should work fine
-gallery should be cake

I'm aiming to do the final copy and DNSisms tomorrow morning. I am guessing we don't have as many people on the site at 8am EST :)

Yup, we are on the new host... data seems fine. I still have the old host up and cooking for now with a disabled board.

I'm going to cancel my account with them.

Unlike the previous host, I actually get status updates from these guys....
Quote:
At approximately 3:30pm (PST), your server, gage, was having some load
issues and failed to come back up after rebooting. We are in the process
of moving it over to new harware and hope to have it back up shortly.
We're terribly sorry for the inconvenience this causes you.

Seems much happier now.
