took my swapped colt to local 1/8 mile track.kind of disappointed in my times. I went 8.3 @98 miles, with a 2.0 60 ft. also went 8.4 @101, with 2.1 60 ft. this is on 8.5/23/15 m&h slicks. rim size is 15x6. entire weight with rim and tire is about 38 pounds a piece . tranny is km210 , hp is between 450 to 500. just my estimate, from when I had my gsx dynoed on awd dyno. at 412 on 23 psi. which I ran at 27to 28 lb. not saying a 100% what my colt has but it is the exact same set up I had in my gsx except for 1000cc injectors now vs 680 then. slicks do no hook until 3rd gear. this is with, speed based boosting. from eo1. 1st time out with the car so I am trying diffrent things. there is no way I can set it straight 27-28 lbs. tried it straight 27-28 lbs did not work. so set 1st stages lower. about 23-24 lbs. still major traction problems I keep bouncing off of 8000rpm to get any kind of speed.

Q: do you think I would benifit with a eclipse fwd tranny?

Q: would lighter rims help with traction issues (rims weight about 22lbs each)

Q:would bigger slick benifit my performance? 8.5/24.5/15?

basicaly things that I have noticed are, I am shifting in to fourth gear probably at 140ft before the finish. I am guessing.doesn't matter where I am at in second gear if I bogg I can still break them loose in second. the reason why I bounce off of rev limiter is because. I am trying to get speed up before I switch to third gear.things that I have but I have not used dsm link , 2 step. I will try ot get a video up.

The 1g dsm fwd tranny will have longer gearing, so it should help you out imo. Not really sure if lighter wheel will help, kinda doubt it. The taller slick should help as well since it will too raise your gearing, but will cause more load on the driveline.

The longer gearing will definitely help out with traction. I'm surprised your 60' times are that weak with the slick. Do you have any suspension? Seems like you are making around 425whp with the traps, though it could be because of the 60' times. I don't forsee wheel weight contributing too much to your traction issues such as good boost control, DSM FWD turbo trans, and a larger diameter slick.

You did not mention susspension, once you have real HP it does not matter what you do bigger slicks, staged boost etc etc without a good working susspension your not going to have very good times. This has to be the #1 mistake I see guys who go from awd to fwd make.

Damn son, did you run your your car at Perris? I haven't checked that place out yet, but I heard it was nice, just a lot of DUMBestics. Those are crazy traps though, really really crazy.

yes I ran it at perris it is all kinds of cars not all domestics.there is going to be a run what you brung event on sunday. fast et,best reaction times and other cash prizes. I will be there. it starts around 10 or 11am. it will last until 5pm. I think it is about $30 to get in. I am going to give it a try see what I can do.call this number for more info 951-940-0134. it is on 12/10/06.

possiblity hp could be slipping. I need to do a compression check. I have been boosting on this engine for about five years.but also could probably us a better tune.

yes I have some what of a suspension e-bay coilovers and brand new kyb2. really stiff spring rate.

tranny shifts like butter no problems there. just wish 1st and 3rd would hold longer. thinking that would help bring up my traps. that why I asked about the fwd tranny. It feels like I have to wait for the power to pick back up in 4th. holding it all the way throught 3rd car only traps 97 mph.

Well the 1g FWD tranny has short gearing, but a very tall final drive ratio. A shorter final drive is gonna be better for your powerband because it'll keep the RPM's up there when you're shifting, but you won't have as much speed in each gear, so it's sort of a double-edge sword. Try revving it higher and see what that does for you, with a setup like that I'd be doing at least 8,500 if not 9,000rpm.

The FWD trans is the trans you want, unless you are running a turbo that flows +70lbs/min, and then you'd want to rev the piss outta the motor like Captain said. A 24.5" slick + FWD DSM trans is going to make for some long gearing, and the car should hook there. If you start making 500whp then that might be the way to go, unless you go with a large turbo such as a pt67, then you'd want the KM210 trans and 24.5" slick.

for now to be able to go to the event. I am going to work on the first two gears boost levels. probably a real lsd would help. I figure our power band would be better suited with a dsm tranny. there is suppost to be a skyline exbistion, a burn out comp, and a few trophy and cash prizes to. I am hoping to win for the most diffrent car..... haha. the anouncer at the track says he thinks my colt is the only one left in socal. then I ran an 8.3 @98 must have shocked the shit out of them.....

From what I have read slicks need very low pressure to hook up. Around 10-16psi. I would try that before you go replacing transmissions.

I would honestly try the taller slicks first, namely to get you a better 60' and the added height with tire grow will get you to around 109 mph in 3rd on the KM210...115 mph on the F5M33 just to compair the two.

The short trans will be good if you are at 450whp or less. I drove the Grass roots Colt to a 10.9@125 with some 405whp.

Now My Colt at 708whp had enough traction problems as is with the long gears of the turbo trans,a nd they would have only been compounded by the short gearing of the stock GT trans.

So really-I think yuor power production will dictate what is best for you.
