Question- Is the car capable of that speed with the DSM tranny gearing? The fastest I have ever heard of a DSM going is mid 170's and with the Colt having smaller tire diameter I would double check to see if the car is even capable of those speeds. With a TRE 5th gear, 8000rpm rev limit and a maximum 24 inch diameter tire possibly? Just curious if you did the math yet and if so what did you come up with for a theoretical maximum top end?

For a top end style run I would think the most important things would be gearing and drag coefficient. Also, for your safety, I'd be sure the tires are rated up to spec. It would suck to have a blow out at 150+

I was thinking the same thing, a lot of cars are struggling at 160-170, good luck either way make sure cameras rolling.

Alot of cars yes but my RX-7 Fells awsome at that speed but thats where drag and enginering coem into play.

This year I want my daily driver Colt(16g) to go 11's and hopfully the AWD drag Summit will get a chance get a run down the 1320 with what Im planing it should go 10's with even a 16g.

Good luck everyone and be SAFE.

I saw a GPS verified 184mph racing a 1000rr. This was getting near 8k.

I have 235/45/17's BFG's on the front, which gives me a near 27inch tire diameter. That with the long FWD trubo trans gearing should get me to 200+ before 8500rpm. As far as stability, it feels better at 150+ than 70-120, and Im not joking.

Braking.. Wells I hope for a big shut down area. :)

Definitely keep us informed, maybe in another post in the future.

Last night I was discussing with a friend major tuning companys that produce super cars (Ligenfelter, Hennesy, etc.) and your race came up. I don't doubt that you can beat a TT Vette, but after I told him all about your car(500+ hp, locked/welded diff, 2000lbs), he really wanted to know what the vette was packing in that same area.

Aviation people distinguish air resistance as parasitic and induced drag, but the critical thing to understand is that drag increases as the square of speed. That is, while power increases in a linear fashion, drag increases exponentially with speed, in a parabolic function. For example (neglecting the effect of rolling resistance), if 100 horsepower would push a certain vehicle 100 miles per hour through the air, doubling the speed to 200 would require two-squared or 400 horsepower to overcome air resistance, while 300 miles per hour would require 900 horsepower.

-Bob Norwood.

Seeing as the car did 100mph with some 95 fwhp............

I suppose the 498whp I had was more than enough to mow through 7000rpm in 5th on the long turbo trans gears.

Just as an update....

I have commited to run in the Hod Rod standing mile shootout. It is in NC and is being held April 1st and 2nd. As long as I finish the car, I should do very well. I wont make any predicitons as to what my exit speed will be, but I will tell you, if everything comes together, it wont make much sense. :)
