Went to the local strip this past saturday for the last test and tune session of the season and was plesantly surprised,I guess?? I didnt know really what to expect. I knew that i have owned the car for a month and a half or so and have never really dumped the clutch or really raced it on the street for that matter. The track is at 550 feet above sea level which is great. The temp was 70 with humidity at 40 percent and there wasnt a cloud in the sky so it seemed perfect!! I had alot of friends at the track that day who were old race buddies of mine from my small block days and i caught alot of flack from them for buying this car in the first place, so normally i wanted to put on a good show. My first run i pulled through the side of the water box since i was running my kuhmo 711's and knew i didnt want to heat them too much and get them greasy. I did a small 4 second burnout up to the staging lights without touching the E brake. When the car started to wheelhop a lil', i knew they were as sticky as they were going to get. I had my hks boost controller on which at the moment is set at 22 psi. I staged the car and kept the rpm's at about 4000k. when the light went green, i nailed it and it wheel hopped twice and then hooked. I was shifting conservitably at 7200. When i shifted into second and the boost came in at 4200, i blew the tires off BAD! i hit the rev limiter and immediately shifted to 3rd, but wasnt going fast enough so it bogged a lil' in 3rd and when it came on boost, i again blew the tires off. By now , my E.T was S H I T !! I ran a very dissapointing 14.57 @ 106.18. Now for the second run, i think i learned my lesson a little. I turned the boost controller off which took the boost to 10 psi and took the tire pressure down to 20 psi from 36 and did a lil better. I still blew off 2nd gear pretty bad but third hooked better. My run was a 13.7 @ 110.
Man, i cant wait till i have some slicks next year and have a good tune with the boost turned up to 25 or so. I guess i did ok. Hell, i didnt blow anything up!! :o

my slips looked like this:  :o

1ST Run:22psi/ 2nd Run:10psi
r/T .377 / .563
60: 2.577/ 2.625
330: 6.79/ 6.433
1/8: 9.89/ 9.136
mph: 83/ 87.83
1000: 12.43/ 11.735
1/4: 14.578/ 13.788
mph: 106.18/ 110.07

Awesome 60' times, lol (j/k). You'll definitely need a slick for that kinda power. Where did you dyno your car at? What track is up there near hagerstown BTW? Decent trap speed on the 2nd pass for the 1/8th mile time especially with the 60'. Can you post a mods list please!

take more pressure outta the tires.. leave the hole like and old lady... drop the hammer in third...... Your traps will be through the roof.

high twelves and low 13's can still be had with street tires.....

Alotta hop? Please check your mounts to make sure you didnt break em

what geff said:

DEFINATELY take more air out of your tires. you may have 20psi of air in your tires, but after you are done staging your psi goes waaaaaaaaaay up.

i plan on airing my slicks to about 10 psi and hope for traction.

don't even bother full-throttling until 3rd, you're just going to spin (unless you are running hella low boost).

right on man. your setup is pretty similar to mine. i actually have a bullseye/pte to4s 60-1 though w/ a 38mm internal gate and victory o2 housing.

you should be able to hit 12's with some work on your driving. i prolly won't be running the 1/4 for a while, but hopefully i can post up some 1/8th times and dyno humbers pretty soon.

I wasnt going to run at all , but i wanted to get an idea to see what it would run on radials. next year iwill go the full slick route . this past sat. i seen the nitto drag radials and also the bf goodrich drag tires spin all over the place. i heard they were good, but i might as well get the real deal if i am only going to run them on the track.

Run a wrinkle wall at the track, BFG drag radial on the street if you don't daily drive it. I went from blowing tires off in 3rd gear till 75mph on a regular radial to a BFG drag radial and wouldn't spin 2nd gear that bad and none in 3rd, this was with an old beat up 18g.

A friend of mine just ran his 400whp Colt at the track on Drag radials and pulled a 12.4 at 126 mph. This was at the least sticky track around too.

Sounds like some spinning problems to me. I know how that feels though, my car is useless with the power its putting down now, just a spin fest until 4th gear when the car starts to actually cover some ground. Gonna have to do some 2 stage control and hope for the best. Good trap speed for your buddy.

Why are your traps looking so low on those runs with that much horsepower in such a light car?
