I know you can get the gt40 turbo with a 50 trim 82mm dia compressor wheel or you can get it with a 54 trim 88mm dia compressor wheel. The specs are on precisions website. I am assuming since the gt40 compressor wheel is a 56trim wheel, and precision doesn't offer the gt40 turbo with a 56trim compressor wheel, only the 50trim and 54trim, then the gt40 turbo uses something larger, flows 75lbs/min, but I'm not sure of the name of the wheel, all I know is approximately how much it flows.

I never said the gt40 compressor wheel had a 65mm inducer, I said that the GT40 turbos use an 88mm dia compressor wheel, in which case they do. Also, compressor wheel diameter specs and inducer/exducer specs aren't the same. The total dia. of the compressor wheel is 88mm, and I am looking at that right now on precisions website. The mm specs you are giving are for the EXDUCER, and as far as I am concered- false advertized.

The size of a turbo comp is most often determined by its INDUCER. 61mm for the 35r, 65mm for the 40r. T-61 61mm. T66-66mm. Its not that tuff.

As it stands, the 61mm Comp wheel IS the 35r wheel, and the 65mm IS what is found in a standard 40. I will ask you to go back to the AGP61 and tel me what Comp wheel is in deed in it? Hell, ask then what cartrige they will send you if you blow it up, it sure as hell won tme a GT40 Cartige now will it?

As for the 60-1, I was think of theold 61, and the first wave of hybrid turbo's befor the Garret GT series came out. That turbo, had a 60-1 Compressor wheel. I should know, I was a Beta tester for the damn thing.

You are right about the exducer specs. I don't really pay too much attention to the inducer/exducer specs, mainly the total lbs/min the compressor wheel flows, and the size of turbine wheel/housing.

I understand the turbo's name has been derived from the new hotness turbine wheels. BUT.. I will make it real simple.


In the land of turbo.

An off the shelf GT35r comes with a 61mm inducer size compressor wheel.

An off the shelf GT40r comes with a 65mm inducer wheel.

Thats it, period, fineto. There is no room to differentiate. The GT40 even has 7 main blades as opposed to the 35's 6.

It is no tthe same wheel, and calling the 61mm inducer wheel in the AGP61 a GT40 compressor wheel is blasphemy.

I understand the GT40 turbo has a 65mm inducer wheel, we both agree upon that, but the AGP61, SC61, SCM61, BR580, GT35r does have what garrett classifies as a gt40 compressor wheel in a 61mm inducer size. If you can't accept that then its not my fault, to call it blasphemy is plain ignorance because that's what its referred to by everyone in the business.

Its not ignorance, its the truth! PLEASE, call Dave in the mourning and ask him what Cartridge is in a BR580. It will lend all of this.

No offense but I don't understand the argument anymore, lol. I mean, we both agree that the GT40 turbo uses a 65mm inducer comp wheel, and we both agree that the gt35r,sc61, br580, run 61mm inducer wheels. Is the argument the fact that the 35r, br580, and sc61 don't have gt40 compressor wheels? Cause the gt40 turbo and the gt35r, sc61, br580, agp61 all use a compressor wheel of the same family, the gt40 family. The trims and sizes are different of course between the gt35r and gt40 turbo but that wheels they use are still the gt40 comp wheel family.

two different naming schemes genious. we don't name compressor wheels by the turbine they are attached to. they have their own individual naming. the complete turbo assembly is named after the turbine wheel, for what reason i do not know, it makes more sense in my opinion to name after the compressor wheel. the "GT40" designation is NOT in reference to what complete turbo assembly it belongs to, but rather an individual wheel name designation. the "GT35R" is the GT40 compressor wheel mated with a GT35 turbine wheel and GT30 series ball bearing center cartridge

re-read what i said it'll make sense if you read it enough. the wheels are named independently. i don't think it can get much clearer than that.

it'sa common issue. Mitsubishi does the same shit with housings and wheels. same name can be two different things depending what part you're talking about. i personally didn't think it was taht difficult to grasp though. you have to look at the turbo not as a complete unit but as a combination of smaller units. like legos.

boostfreak, just a quick question if you don't mind: why did you go with the 93+ dodge colt versus the 89-92? the wheel base looks to be a little longer which would definatly help but is there any other advantage? like what is the weight difference? thanks!

well i don't want to speak for him or anything, but it might have just been what was on hand for him... personally if i had the chance, i'd go for the 5g mirage and do a full evo conversion to it :twisted:

Give me an exaple then, becuase off the top, I dont agree.

There is only 1 type of comp wheel in a 14b

There is no varient turbine wheel that you can call a tdo5 turbine
" " " " " tdo6 turbine
