So to keep me sane with this winter I am posting a turbo picture a day till I run out. Here is a picture of a 80 Corolla I put a g54 ( I think this is correct) from a Starion with a Garrett turbo, Megasquirt

the white stuff on the exhaust manifold is from a fire extinguisher, had a small problem when tuning. i only took the car to the track 2 times. The 1st time was when I finished it and made 5 runs. Started at 12.4 and finished witha vehicle best of 11.4@121. I was having issues with the drag radials hooking up so the next week end I borrowed some wrinkles and went to Epping. Heated them babies up and staged. I went to about 5 grand, dumped the clutch and the front end lifted up. Then BANG, towed back to truck and found the output shaft broken in 3 pieces. Turns out it launched, suspension squatted and the sticky tires stuck to the tops of the fenderwells.
Solid motor mounts, no interior, no heat, and as it turns out no fun to drive unless you are at the track soooo down the road it went.
On to the next

Some wrap and custom heat shields should keep the timing covers from melting. ;)

Decided to take it for a ride. Using a LA3 ecm from a Turbo coupe and and posative gain fuel pressure regulator with a Walbro. I wanted to see what a good turbo would do. I had pushed the IHI RB20 to 16lbs and then tried 22lbs but it was way out of it's compressor range. It really went the same with 6lbs more boost. On the street I went with the new setup and was ready for the fun to begin. Easy in 1st gear then hit second and floored it. Boost begins to build and boy does it feel much better than the crappy IHI. 10-16lbs-wow then I see 24lbs and man does it feel good then I hear a noise and quickly look at my wideband.... All I see is lean, in the rear mirror ....smoke, No good. Limp it back to the shop and see the carnage. I broke all 4 pistons, destroyed the head and found out the importance of keeping the fuel in par with the boost or more accuratly oxygen. 24 lbs of boost on a efficient turbo is way different than the same boost on crappy, too small turbo.
