I was browsing craigslist yet again and saw a cheap 04 Lancer Ralliart about 25 minutes from my house. We called and the guy said someone else had already came to look at it but didn't quite have all of the money and we were welcome to come and check it out. He had it listed for $3500 and said he'd take $3300. We go and check it out expecting to see a pile of crap that needed a bunch of work, since there were a few similar cars on CL asking 6k plus. When we get there it looks great so then I think it must run like crap. We drive it for about 20 minutes and no issues at all. I did notice the sunroof didn't close like it should, like it had a stripped gear or something. Still not a deal breaker by any means. Also the D/S fender had been replaced and the paint work was kinda shoddy but again, not a big deal. Well we bought it and have been driving it for about a week. Ended up selling the 92 Eclipse that we bought last year. This car has the 2.4 4G69 from the last Galant/Eclipse with 162hp. Not a rocket ship or anything biut it's peppy and fun to drive. Who knows how long we'll keep it but it'll do for now.

No thanks, it runs like a champ and I'm not touching it. Plus, I would think the SOHC Mivec would be just as good, if not better than the DOHC.

That's a nice score, Chris! Should be a dependable run-around vehicle.

My neighbor has a ralliart lancer, it looks pretty nice. When he was moving in, I had hoped it was an evo (I had only seen it driving away once before).

Craigslist, that's all I do, all day every day. Last great score was an '00 durango, loaded, leather, power everything, new tires, 130k on it, picked it up for 300 bucks. Guy scraped a tree while mudding, spent a few hours buffing and waxing and it was all better. Was a rich guy, he bought it new and didn't care about it once it was paid off. It had a mystery drain on the battery, 30 seconds of googling told me the rear wiper motor dies and sucks power. Unplugged it and it was fixed. New buyers didn't care about the wiper and I loved the 2k in the pocket. 8)

Great flip man. Just posted up the RA today for $3950, I'm sure I could get a little more but don't want to be greedy. We picked up a 2011 Outlander Sport SE yesterday. Black interior and exterior, leather, giant glass roof and 18" alloys, smart key/push button start. Only has 18k on the clock and its mint. I'm sure we'll miss the RA but we have a payment now and need to free up some cash.

If you don't need to sell it asap, don't buckle on the price. Someone will come along and recognize what it's worth and fork over that fat cash.

I won't, I looked it up and the kbb value in fair shape is a little over 4k (and that's private party value). This car would at least pass for good condition if not very good. I did have one kid offer me 3k via text, told him no way and didn't hear back  . I'm sure the right one will come along. I should teach my daughter to drive a manual transmission and sell her Impreza instead.

Sounds like a great idea. Ditch that 20 year old car and give her the nice new one, I'm sure she'd love it.
