We have been looking for a Mirage for my daughter for a month or so on craigslist and haven't really found any good deals. She will get her permit in February and we needed an automatic to teach her to drive on. So I see an ad for a 94 Montero for $1100 that has been hit in the front. It was only 15 minutes from us so we decided to take a look. I've never really cared for the older SUV's but lately a lot of older Mitsu's seem to be growing on me. This particular truck had a brand new set of Goodyears on it and I know they were at least $200 each. So we look at it and drive it down the road and I tell him I'll think on it. He had it listed for about a week and not one single call, because of the body damage I'm sure.

I call him back and offer $600, he counters with $800 so of course we settle at $700. I've already started tearing the front end down and the only major damage seems to be the radiator support. I'm sure I can weld in a used one from the junkyard fairly easy. A new bumper, hood and grill and some small odds and ends and it should be back on the road. It has the 3.0 V6 and it's auto/4wd. 206k on the clock but it runs great. Here are some pics as she sits and of course I will update this as we make progress.

What is the stuff growing out of the bumper!? I like it, other than that.

Previous owner enjoyed hunting and fishing, looks like some rack for fishing poles. We also used a hairdryer and a razor blade to get rid of all the decals.

I lurk too much....

because I recognize your concrete pad beside your house. You keep getting new Mitsubishi's and park them on the same pad and I get a familiar feeling every time I see it!

Nice! The important question: does your daughter like it? haha

Actually she does believe it or not. I showed her some pics of what one of these things looks like not wrecked. She does hate the color though and its not my favorite either. Maybe change it to black/silver or charcoal/silver.

We've decided on black/silver. So far we've picked up an oem radio/cd player and some odds and ends that were missing or broken on the interior. I also looked on Rockauto for the t-belt maintenance parts and it seems this engine has the spring tensioner and no balance shafts since its a V6 so it should be super easy to change, cheap too.

Going today to cut off another radiator core support and grab a hood. The front end is tweaked a little, my buddy that runs a bodyshop will be helping me with that. Can't wait to get it on the road and finally have a tow vehicle to rescue other dead Mitsubishis with!
