Just giving a place for the older models to hang out. I'm not sure if a board already exists for these guys. If so, then that's fine. If not, then here you go.

1st gen like the ones older then the C10?

Technically the nomenclature is wrong - "first gen" refers to the (FWD) A150 model with the front-hinged hood and twin-stick eight speed gearbox. In Japan, this was the first generation Mirage, the older RWD cars were all Lancers.

In common usage, though (especially applied to the North American market), A150 and C10 tend to be lumped together as "second gen" and the RWD Colts/Lancers (at least two different models) are jumbled in as "first gen." But who's picking nits?

Post subject:  Yeah, me too

Man, I've been wanting a nice, say, '72 model 2 door for a while, replace the tranny with one from a 5 speed post '75 car, and drop in a 4g63t, and man, talk about surprising some people!

Oh well....

We should try to establish a chronology of these things since there were quite a few different models. This datasheet is from a 1976 UK car buyer's guide.

Note that oddly enough, the car seems to have been sold as a "Colt Lancer" in Britian. Weird?

it would be cool to know more about these. they aren't ugly cars. i would love to get one. its kinda like to vintage rotaries... ha. there's a project. i would rather see a 63t in it though. anyhow. RWD would destroy the compitition. you could easily get a 10 sec street car with one of those. I have never seen one though. haven't been looking, but if i ever saw 71-73 colt in the paper or anywhere else for that matter i would have noticed.

Yep - in Britain the company that imported Mitsubishi Motors cars was called the Colt Car Company. Hence all Mitsubishi models were known as Colts until around 198(3?) ish.

I have been looking actually, and they aren't easy to find. not the 2 doors anyways. if you want a station wagon, they're far easier to come by, and the 4 doors almost as easy. but the 2 doors, they seem to be like hen's teeth. I was originally going to drop in a turbo'd g32b since some of them came with g32b's from the factory, and all you'd have to do is bolt it in, and wire it, no fab work at all!

Oh well, I'll find a cherry 2 door for $50 one day :)

wow, 1885 pounds and 115 hp available, that ought to make for a pretty peppy car, nevermind a 400+ hp '63t

LOL... The funny thing is if you compare the datasheet I posted to, say, my '95 some fishy stuff comes to light...

Brakes:
1976: solid disc/drum w/power assist
1995: solid disc/drum w/power assist - winner: TIE

Engine:
1976: 1600cc SOHC I-4
1995: 1500cc SOHC I-4 - winner: 1976

Power output:
1976: 100 BHP / 101 lb-ft
1995: 92 BHP / 93 lb-ft - winner: 1976

Drive wheels:
1976: Rear
1995: Front - winner: 1976

Suspention:
1976: Ind. coils / Leaf axel
1995: Ind. coils / ind. coils - winner: 1995

Stock rubber:
1976: 155SR13
1995: 155/80R13 - winner: TIE

Kerb weight:
1976: 1885 lbs
1995: 2090 lbs - winner: 1976

So, there you go. The 1976 Lancer Coupe beats my 1995 Mirage Coupe in four out of seven catagories. The older car makes 8 extra HP and weighs 200 lbs less. What the hell happened???

people being retarded is what happened. car companies just make a lot of stupid decisions. im sure its good in some ways that its changed. but when it comes down to a lot of things, they just make the wrong move IMO.
