Post subject:  carbon fiber dash surround

I'm thinking about making a carbon fiber dash surround molded with spaces to mount four 52mm gauges where the hazard and rear wiper switches are currently, (the topmost would be where the switches are, the next one lower and slightly outboard so they follow the arc of the steering wheel and would be visible at all times). It would be as thin as possible and retain the factory appearance. The fat part of the surround is almost wide enough now to fit a gauge, it will be just a little wider in this area. I have access to vacuum bags, CF and epoxy resin, so the job will be professional and neat with factory mounting holes drilled out.

This will address two issues that effect the stock dash:

1) The brittleness of the stock plastic
2) Lack of good, visible mounting places.

Hazard and rear wiper controls would have to be repositioned.

I'm planning to do this as soon as posible. Once the mold is perfected any number of these could be made. I'm wondering if there is any interest. This is for the dash surround only, you would have to provide your own gauges.

I don't know. I'll have to get in the shop and see how much time is involved. I'd guess around 100 bucks. I'm leaning toward the 2 gauge design now as I got some VDO gauges for the center stack. I don't see why other small, simple things couldn't be made as well, like doorsill covers and trim pieces.

i'd be interested as well, depending on final price. i LOVE carbon fiber, but i have to strike some sort of balance so the colt doesn't start looking like some kind of civic or something :o
