Well as some of you may or may not know, my Galant GSX lasted all of about 5 days before it had a meltdown coming home from Paul's (HondaHunter). My parent's are yelling at me to never buy another Mitsubishi since the Diamante is still sitting helpless in front of their house. My Dad spoke these words as he held up one hand with each phrase and then put them together, "Mitsubishi...piece of sh*t....they're one in the same." All this cause his friend who owns a repair shop says so. They all say to get either a Honda or Toyota.

I agree that both those makes are great and very reliable, but I just can't bring myself to do it...yet. There's a reason my blood is red, and it is because of the Diamond Star. So tomorrow I go in search of another Mitsu that hopefully won't let me down. I'm gonna start with this '91 Mirage. The guy selling it says it's a 5-spd, has over 200k miles showing, and he thinks it may have a rebuilt motor in it. We'll see. I'm just hoping that if it checks out and I get it, that yet another motor won't check out on me. Just call me "Block Busta". The only bonus to this is the fact that I get to rebuild all these cars with the aftermarket parts I will soon carry. Not one part sold yet, but I already have 3 shop project cars. Woot! However, if my next car is a Mitsu and blows up, I'm gonna cry.

If the motor has been rebuilt by a shop it should have a heat tab attached to the head somewhere. They sre usually attached on a freeze plug on the block or any space accessable on the head. If there is one , check to make sure the center isnt melted. Never trust the " i think its been rebuilt" routine. Does the car look like its been driven regularly? 90% of reliability is buying a car thats been half-ass maintained properly.

Well I looked at the car today. It's pretty much what I had thought. A bit rough around the edges (literaly in some parts) with a little over 240,000 miles, but it ran fine and is fairly clean. On of the rough edges happens to be the drivers side interior handle/armrest. It was cracked and when I got in the damn thing cut my palm. Aside from the normal wear and tear the only other negatives are the blown shocks, the fact I can't find proof the motor was rebuilt, and all the holes that were drilled in the passenger side door well for body repair. Well, I take that back.

The other negative is that it's at a hole in the wall used car lot owned by this guy named Ron. More than likely his name is really Rahkim or something along those lines. He clearly comes from a country where they are born to wheel and deal since back home you need to just to get a loaf of bread. As it stands foolio here want's $1300 out the door. Normally I'd piss in his coffee mug and walk out the door, but this happens to be the only one I can find around here in the El Cheapo price range. Though it's not a rockin' steal, Kelly Blue Book seems to think it's a fair price and I'm leaning to agree. If I can get it for $1200 or less I may go for it. Only other car that catches my eye at the moment is a rare '78 Volvo 240 GT. I'm gonna check it out tomorrow, but I may be adding a C52A to my collection come Monday.

Well, I didn't go Honda, if you can't tell from my sig. I got a near perfect '89 E33 Galant with the 4G63 SOHC. One of the best parts is it doesn't have those little bastard mouse-runner automatic seat belts. Only issues are the fact that it needs a new ISC and shocks. Other than that it only has 154k miles on it and has previously had a valve job. For $1000 I think I got a pretty good deal on it.
