i just came across a 1987 chevy sprint turbo (1.0 liter 3-cyl TURBO) the thing has a suzuki motors co badge on the engine bay, like our colts have mitsubishi ones. and also I saw a mitsu emblem on one of the sensors so the thing is at least part reliable. $150 bones takes it and it started right up with a new battery.

now the down side. the thing has some body damage, and there were offroad tires stacked on the roof so thats dented too, it has a bad leak from somewhere around the turbo, and its all really dirty under the hood. the windows were busted out, and since this is oregon it rains *periodically* and recently it snowed so the interior is shot, the seats are in permanent "getting-laid" position and theres a busted tail light. all this could drive up the cost considerably.
so I have thought of yanking the exhaust mani and finding a donor geo with the same motor (or just swapping motors since I think I could pick it up under one arm lol ) and having a little express train to the grave. but it has the *cutest* intercooler I have ever seen, its like 5''x8'' and its right on top of the motor to the right when you pop the hood. so what do you all think? deathtrap or deal?

I think it's a deal. Just get a geo metro and swap the shit over. Instant sleeper :D Of course, we are talking about a 1 liter so it wont be THAT fast, but maybe you cuold be putting some hurtin' on some hondas. Or just keep cranking the boost up till something broke.

HAHAHA, I would not spend $150 on a car and just trash it, now if you got a free ford escort that is a whole different ball O wax, I just picked up a free 93' Hyundi Excel runs ok, has A/C (that works!!) just would not smog.

theres a bit of a following for those cars, theres a guy at the local track that has one done up and its about as fast as a 88-89 style si civic. The 87-88 body style is called a Suzuki Forsa, 1.0 sohc 3cyl turbo intercooled, 89 and later changed to the Swift model name and a bigger 1.3l DOHC motor with 100 HP, my brother almost bought one for autocross but could'nt find one in good enough shape and bought a CRX. they also came rebadged as chevy sprint turbo, and pontiac firefly turbo. if i was to get one id buy the newer body style (1989-91) with independant suspension and 1.0 3 cyl turbo motor.

I'd buy it - we have a few Suzuki Swift GTis (non turbo) and Daihatsu Charade GTTis here that regularaly race at the 1/4 mile at Crail.

the non Turbo Swift GTi has run 15.9 (that's a Geo Metro to you lot :P )

the Daihatsu's somewhere in the 14s - 3 cyl, 1 litre turbo - the turbo's the same length as the engine block!

I'd go for it! Take out that crappy interiour, replace all glass w/ lexane or even polystyrene (like rear side windows where you don't need visibility), install a cage and do some serious autox!
Get it some nice headers and crank up the boost (use an IC), advance base timing by 2-3 degs, install a stronger ignition system and port the hell out of everything.
If it's the ECI rather than carby engine, port the MAF and use a Nissan SR20 TB. If it's the carby setup, why not install Megasquirt and make it ECI!
This all should give you some 100-ish HP! :D

Edit: Or drop in the G13B engine (1.3L DOHC 100 HP) and T/C it!

all good ideas, I have been doing a little research and have these specs:
1.0 ltr
3 cyl
IHI RHB31 turbo
7.5 psi max boost
70 hp
107 lb/ft
1620 lbs
88.4 inch wheelbase
144.5 inch overall length
9.5 sec. 0-60 mph
29.7 sec. 0-100 mph
16.2 qtr. mile
around 35-45 mpg

thats not too bad considering only three cylinders...at 1600lbs you could tub that beotch out like crazy and get it to 1200lbs or something.... you should find out if it's an open or closed deck for the possibility of turning up the boost... there is one of these parked a few streets down from me in some dudes backyard..it never moves but it looks tight kinda just cause it has a hood scoop and says turbo on the side.
