That's right, I actually found someone that would hire me in a bodyshop. Its a trial basis but this was my first week and its going great so far. Pay is decent but once I get some experience it will go up. I'm just stoked that I found someone to give me a chance. Even after taking a bunch of paint and body classes most shops want someone with a few years experience. I called this guy every month and he never had any openings, something told me to try him again the other day and he said "yeah, come on out and talk to me". A few hours later I officially had the job. They do some collision work here and there but its mostly restorations. I've been tearing down a 55 Chevy suspension and blasting the parts all week along with helping some of the others guys on some odds and ends. Its a small shop and these guys have been doing it a while, even had some stuff featured in some magazines. I know I'll be able to learn a lot from them and be able to hold my own one of these days. I'm still in shock. You guys say an extra prayer for me that it will all work out. We get off Fridays at lunch time and no weekends so I'll still be able to hit the yards now and then. |

That is awesome Chris! Without a doubt you will succeed. I recommend staying out othe paint booth except when needed, I don't like the word Isocyanates. The yards will always be there but restorations on certain vehicles can get harder and harder to do, I would have done that ten years ago if I had found a shop locally. Congratulations and wishing the best for you guys. |

Thanks guys! Tim, its funny you mention the paint booth because I actually enjoy painting. Not sure how much I will get to do but I certainly want to learn all that I can. |

Congrads! Since my dad is a pinstriper I've been raised around body shops and I'm no spring chicken!  I even picked up the trade as well. It's been my experience that the best way to approach any shop it to enact a sponge mentality. That along with good work ethics practicaly seal the deal. Everything else just falls into place. So enjoy your new profession. As for the yards you'll now have more funds to grab more  .

That's great news! Congratulations on landing a job that you can look forward to every day. Not too many people can say they're excited to go to work. I worked in a spray booth for a couple months painting highway solar signs. Make sure you always wear the proper respiratory equipment when spraying. Your lungs will thank you years down the road. |
