Early pictures from Project "Colt 45/Papa Smurf" will be seen all in one place here - http://www.studiosp.net/colt New pictures are posted in the thread and no longer updated in that link.

So today with lots of help from friends I moved both my Colt and it's donor (see sig) to their new garage at my buddy's house for the swap. I keep the Teg and my Evo in the garage at my house and street parking a partially swapped car just wasn't in the cards so...off they went today!

Got another buddy's Land Rover and a tow dolly and towed the Colt following the perfectly good Talon to their destination about 20 miles away. The Talon runs so great it really breaks my heart to tear it down...but sacrifices have to be made! Plus it's just a FWD DSM so basically a 1000-1300 lb heavier traction problem on wheels. We got most everything disconnected on both the Colt and Talon tonight in the garage. I have a few questions about how to connect the brakes and clutch cylinder so more reading on here is in the cards. Made lots of progress and wanted to share in my satisfaction :)

Made lots of progress over the weekend. With the help of my buddies/co-workers from HorsepowerFreaks we got both motors stripped bare in their respective engine bays on Saturday between food and chillin'. Sunday I ran all around town trying to get both my engine stand and the rented cherry picker to the garage so we could pull one or both, ended up at 4pm finally with everything there and got the Colt's motor pulled. Here are some shots from Saturday. I'm just going to buy a cherry picker this weekend because renting is BS. Next weekend will probably be Evo time because of new part arrivals but maybe we'll make some more progress on the yet unnamed Colt.

Thanks man. Haven't had too much frustration yet, getting the motor out was really easy. I really want to make sure everything is done to the highest standard, no DSM mentality here. It may take me a while...but once it's done it should really perform. I'll keep updating!

I'm glad the car is the only one naked in the pictures.

I hope that wasn't a shot at my friends for no particular reason, but if it was...well I guess staying above that level is the best move :)

Nah, take a chill pill. I just had to come up with a joke that went with the stripped down car. :butthead:

So far my only bitch is the mechanic hands I get all week from this weekend project. I can't stand wearing Mechanix gloves but maybe I need to get used to it.

Gotta make some progress on the Evo this weekend so I don't know if I'll make any headway on the Colt. Got the GSC 272s, waiting to arrive: Unorthodox cam gears, ARP head studs, AEM serial gauge and Tial BOV to finish the package and tune tune tune. When that's all done I can switch projects again. Hopefully I can do the 4g63 proud and make close to 400whp on pump gas and the stock turbo, we'll see.

Looks like you have too many projects like I do :P Keeps you busy, though. Good luck with the swap.

I definitely do but where's the fun in life without projects :)

Latest update: Decided to just buy a cherry picker because I realized by the time I'd spent 3 or 4 hours at a time doing this swap that I'd have more than paid for one renting at $25 a day and the gas and time wasted to and from to get it from the rental place. In the little time I spent on the Colt this weekend I didn't even get the cherry picker built, lol. The Colt GT skirts I bought did come in tho so that was cool! I'll be adding a Tom's front and rear bumper to complete the look.

Made a bunch more progress on the Colt this weekend. We spent quite a bit of time degreasing and hand cleaning the engine bay. I'm really not a good person to be building a racecar because clean will always be a priority...but oh well. After getting the bay cleaned we got the motor on the Talon pulled with my new hella racer ready red cherry picker :). I need to start buying parts before we can get much further so we're headed to the junkyard today for mounts. I'm going to do the motor mount inserts and sway bar bushings now while it's easy so hopefully I can have those for more progress next weekend. Pics coming tonight!

I would put the 4g15 in the Talon and sell it but the rear has been hit and the axle is pitched to the passenger side. To add to that disaster the guy who bought and "fixed it up" had some fab shop weld on a bracket they made to accomodate this new driveline angle...sweet. The car is beat and I wouldn't feel OK selling it to anyone. The motor had perfect compression (rebuilt with stock components) and the tranny shifted smooth so for $1400, it seemed real reasonable to me. My buddy Bryan with the blue Talon in the pictures has been able to use some of its various parts that are in nicer condition so it worked out for everybody.

We did make it to the yard today; long drive into the middle of nowhere to U-Pull-It in two different locations. Between the two there were three CSMs (one hydraulic!) and two J1 Elantras :) Got the two side mounts but will have to go back if I need the rear, a Hyundai valve cover, and the hydraulic clutch pedal assembly and master cylinder. We're making some progress! My buddy Ben took the rest of the pictures on his camera and insists he edit them before posting so those will be a bit. Here's my new stuff :D
