For you guys with an EPROM 4g61t ECU, I'm fairly sure that I can convert the ECU to DSM code if you want. There's also someone in Canada on here who can probably do the same, which would help with shipping across the border. I'm not going to volunteer him though. :)

We're also close to changing the rev limiter, but I can't test that so I won't say for certain.

If someone wants to test out the 4g61t -> 1G DSM code conversion, let me know. I will change it for the cost of the parts, plus a little bit for soldering time. The parts should be around $20 (ZIF socket, and EPROM). You'll get your original eprom back just in case the new code isn't what you wanted.

Only if you're volunteering! I don't remember if you said if you had the soldering tools to do this or not.

I could probably help a couple guys out with it. Although I don't have an eprom burner although at the same time i'd like to get one any suggestions on one Jason? it would be another toy for the collection :)

I have the Pocket Programmer 2 by intronics.

Works fairly well so far. I need to find an eprom eraser now.

What eprom chips do the Mitsu ECU's use?

Ours uses a 27C128. I think the newer ECU's use a 26C512.

im starting to think about learning and playing with electronic on our cars...

would it be possible to fit the tmo chip on our 4g61t ecu?? i guess its the same eprom as the 1990 dsm eprom ecu

also is the tmo chip copyable or modifiable?? that would bring us a lot of knowledge and fun!!

jason I have 2 61t ECU's, How do I know of they would be eligable for this?? I dunno if they are eprom or not. What are the benefits of changing to DSm code?? I am unfamiliar with the subject. And out of curiousity, what is the rev limiter on ours cars?? I've never hit one. havent gone past 7100rpm's.

thanks,

Jimmy

Jimmy:

Open the ECU's up take a pic and I'l let you know if either are Eprom

as for DSM cod you get the upgraded MAF larger injector maps and I know there is Images kicking around with no rev limiter or 7500 RPM rev limit there is a ton of bebfits and there is a group of guys hacking the crap out of these ECUs it won't be very long until they have thins thing wide open so we can make our own mods mmm opensource ECU :)

more agressive timing and fuel mapping.

Here's how to tell if you have an eprom http://www.tmo.com/howto/ecu1g/checkeprom.htm

the rev limiter is at 7500. I hit it all the time. I haven't been able to confirm the stuff that has been found, because my car is currently on jackstands. As soon as it is, I'm going to do more testing.

Anyone know what a safe rev limit is? I'm thinking 8000rpm.

turbo and high tech performance magazine have an 8500 rpm limiter in their galant vr4, and until that time were running a completely stock bottom end(oil pan never off)
although they did have upgraded cams and valvesprings in the car as well.

thanks for the replys guys, Fast too!!
I'll have to check it out tomorrow, we got a dump load of snow here tonight! :-(

One more question, If they are not eprom ecu's, is it still possible to get these upgrades for the ecu? (dsm code) All the benefits of it have my interest peaked greatly! :D I was thiniking of trying to pick up a TSi ECu and trying to, I hear it works well too. Any comments guys?

thanks again

Jimmy

Upgraded valve springs are the key (well so is valve clearence) :) I remember my buddy down shifting from 5th to second In his old Rabbit his tach we estmated was at about 10500 RPM and the car actually survived it wasn't happy about the whole ordeal but it got over it :) But he had the good valve springs... I slipped a timing bet in my Scirocco once (big chunk of ice got caught in the timing belt path and I didn't have any of my gaurds on) I got out reset all the timing marks and started the car right up thats the advantages of valve clearence :)

I have a friend with a mid 90's teg gsr and he had his engine blue printed, put titantium valvesprings and stuff, had his ignition done and computer upgraded and is good for 12000rpm's all day, Is said to handle 14000 but I guess 12000 would be considered the redline. Sounds pretty wild.
