Hey I was just looking through the listing and see my car has a day code, and is under cali instead of fed. What does the day code mean, and what is the difference between fed and cali?

Each month has either a ".1", ".2", or ".3" listed as a time reference for the build within that month. Consider it first third, second third, final third maybe? I'm not 100% percent on that, but I'm sure we'll piece it together good enough that we can tell people the correct wording and premise behind what the coding means.

"Cali" or "Fed" is just my shorthand way of writing, California" and "Federal", and represents the emissions setup the car was shipped with, and where it probably landed and was allowed to be sold new. This is not to say that a Federal car was not shipped across the country and sold in California, but it could have happened (assuming it was legal to do this at the time, or that Mitsu would sanction the action. You have a slightly different resistor setup on spot 129/130 on the ECU board depending upon whether you are Federal (basic EGR based upon vacuum from an ECU controlled solenoid), or Californian (EGR control beyond the basic setup to further reduce emissions output when EGR is appropriate to recirculate).

The listing I put in for your car was based upon what CAPS tells me, and I've just input the VIN again and the same information comes up. If you do not a Cali ECU, or are missing emissions pieces, you might have a converted to Federal setup? If you take a picture of the EGR valve on the side of the intake manifold, we can tell you if it's California or Federal IIRC, as they are different valve tops.

You can compare with the FSM here too:

Pages 17-21 are best to show the EGR temp sensor and other control mechanisms.
